Baoji University of Arts and Sciences (BUAS) is a provincial public undergraduate institution in Shaanxi Province, recognized as a "domestic first-class discipline construction university."

Historical Overview

Established in 1958 as Baoji University (undergraduate), the institution was reorganized as Baoji Branch of Shaanxi Normal University in 1975. In 1978, it was officially named Baoji Teachers College by the State Council. In 1992, it was renamed Baoji University of Arts and Sciences with the approval of the former State Education Commission.

Over 66 years, BUAS has grown through relentless dedication and innovation, carrying forward the "Baoji spirit" and fostering a legacy of excellence. The institution earned the title of "Excellent School for Undergraduate Teaching Evaluation" from the Ministry of Education in 2008, gained approval as a master's degree awarding unit in 2013, and was included in Shaanxi Province's plan for new doctoral degree awarding units in 2017. It became a "domestic first-class discipline construction university" in 2018 and was selected for Shaanxi's second-round "Double First-Class" construction in 2023. Its disciplines in Engineering and Materials Science rank in the top 1% globally in ESI, with Materials Science and Engineering listed in the 2023 ShanghaiRanking Global Academic Subjects.
