Beijing University of Chinese Medicine Oriental College (National Code: 13899, hereinafter referred to as Oriental College) is a full-time undergraduate institution established in 2005 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. It was founded by Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, a key university directly under the Ministry of Education and part of the "211 Project" for national higher education development in Chinese medicine. The college currently has 16,420 enrolled students and over 1,200 faculty members, with professors and associate professors making up 53.86% of the staff.
The college offers a range of undergraduate programs, including Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Clinical Medicine of TCM and Western Medicine, Acupuncture and Tuina, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Nursing, Rehabilitation Therapy, Medical Imaging Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Business Administration, Marketing, Public Administration, and Health Services and Management. Committed to cultivating application-oriented talent, the college emphasizes practical teaching and maintains 132 off-campus practice teaching bases, including 76 affiliated, teaching, and internship hospitals; 53 internship bases; and 3 national research institutes.
Adhering to its educational philosophy of moral cultivation, Party-building, and ideological-political education, Oriental College has developed unique campus culture and management models such as the "Soul-Casting and Mainstream-Grasping" approach, the "Oriental Spirit," and the "Double Prohibition and Four No’s" policies. To date, the college has produced 36,565 graduates who have received widespread acclaim for their integrity and competence. Employers include the Chinese Armed Forces, Beijing's top medical institutions like Peking University First Hospital and the General Hospital of the Armed Police Force, as well as numerous Class A tertiary hospitals in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and hundreds of large state-owned and multinational enterprises. The college boasts consistently high graduate employment rates and encourages further studies, with many graduates gaining admission to prestigious institutions such as Peking University, the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, China Pharmaceutical University, the Fourth Military Medical University, Renmin University of China, Fudan University, Nankai University, and other renowned universities in China and abroad, including institutions in the United States and the United Kingdom.
The college has published academic works such as Chinese Medicine for Health Preservation and Chinese Medicine Nutrition (bilingual editions in Chinese and English) for use in TCM universities. It has also undertaken numerous national research projects, including higher education reform topics, humanities and social sciences studies, and young educator research initiatives, alongside provincial and municipal research projects. These efforts have earned the college multiple awards for educational achievements, fostering a synergistic relationship between teaching and research.
From 2015 to 2022, the college ranked first for eight consecutive years in independent medical college rankings in China. Its achievements in education and management have been featured by national media outlets such as China Education Daily, China Teacher’s Daily, China Youth Daily, and Xinhua News.
