Changchun Guanghua University was established in 2000 and transformed into a private undergraduate university in 2013 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In 2015, it was designated as a pilot institution for transitioning to an application-oriented undergraduate university in Jilin Province. By 2017, it was selected as a master's degree authorization construction unit by the Jilin Provincial Academic Degrees Committee. In 2019, the university passed the Ministry of Education’s undergraduate teaching evaluation and was recognized as a model university for transformational development in Jilin Province. In 2020, it was honored as a demonstration university for undergraduate talent cultivation reform in the province.
