Jiaying University is a full-time public undergraduate institution under the Guangdong Provincial Government, with a century-long history in teacher education. Located in Meizhou, a city of historical and cultural significance, the university is situated in the hometown of Marshal Ye Jianying, a famous revolutionary leader, in the former Central Soviet Area of China. Meizhou is known as a revolutionary base and the cradle of Hakka culture, and Jiaying University serves as a key development institution for master's degree programs and a national innovation laboratory for teacher education.
The university currently enrolls over 25,000 full-time undergraduate students, with nearly 10,000 students in continuing education programs. It offers programs in 11 disciplines, including literature, science, engineering, law, and medicine, and has 7 provincial-level key disciplines. With 63 undergraduate programs, including 37 national and provincial specialties, Jiaying University operates across four campuses: Jiangbei, Jiangnan, Chengjiang, and Huangtang. The university covers an area of 1,400 acres, with a building area of nearly 700,000 square meters and teaching equipment worth more than 300 million yuan. The library holds over 2.6 million printed books, making it an ideal place for scholarly pursuit.
History and Characteristics
The university was originally founded in 1913 as Meixian County Women’s Normal School (Meizhou was known as Jiayingzhou during the Qing Dynasty, hence the name Jiaying University). It has over 111 years of history. In 2000, it became an undergraduate institution, and in 2006, it passed the Ministry of Education's undergraduate teaching evaluation with a "good" rating. In 2017, the university passed the Ministry's undergraduate teaching audit evaluation and was included in Guangdong's "First-Class University Initiative" in 2018. In 2021, the university adjusted its administrative structure to become a "provincial-level undergraduate institution." Jiaying University adheres to the educational principle of "rooted in the local area, serving Guangdong, facing the whole country, and looking at the international stage," and follows the motto "Diligence, Frugality, Integrity, and Educating People." The university is committed to fostering innovative, entrepreneurial, and highly skilled professionals for local economic and social development.
Moral Education and Talent Cultivation
Jiaying University prioritizes moral education and cultivating talent for the Party and the country. It upholds the principle of "comprehensive development" in nurturing students, producing socially responsible citizens with moral integrity, intellectual development, physical well-being, aesthetic appreciation, and labor skills. The university has established five provincial collaborative education centers, including centers for early childhood education, Hakka culture, and football talent development. It also has over 400 off-campus internship and employment bases. Faculty and Staff Development
The university actively recruits and nurtures talent to strengthen its faculty. Currently, Jiaying University has nearly 2,000 staff members, including over 1,500 full-time faculty members, 140 professors, 400 associate professors, and 1,280 faculty members with master's or doctoral degrees. The faculty includes 40+ distinguished talents, such as those selected for the Ministry of Education's New Century Talents Program and Guangdong’s Pearl River Scholars program. The university has also invited more than 20 prominent figures, including academic elites and award-winning professors, to serve as honorary professors.

Jiaying University has obtained over 20 national research projects, published more than 3,600 research papers, and holds over 200 patents.
