Jilin Agricultural Science and Technology University is a full-time public undergraduate institution under the Jilin Provincial Government, located in Jilin City, known as the "City of Rime" in northern China. The university is a demonstration institution for Jilin Province's transformation and development, selected for the national "Excellence Plan" and "New Agricultural Sciences" program. It is also a demonstration base for national new-type professional farmer training, food and nutrition education, and science popularization education. Jilin Agricultural Science and Technology University is a designated A-level institution for the development of master's degree programs in Jilin Province.
The university has a rich history, dating back to the founding of the Jilin Secondary Agricultural School in 1907. In October 2003, the Agricultural Technology College of Beihua University (Jilin Provincial Agricultural School) merged with the Jilin Specialty Products College, forming a new Jilin Specialty Products Higher Vocational College. In May 2004, the college was approved by the Ministry of Education to upgrade to a full-time undergraduate institution, and it was renamed Jilin Agricultural Science and Technology University.
The university operates across two campuses: the Jiuzhan and Zuojia campuses, covering a total area of 1.98 million square meters, with the campus itself occupying 1.66 million square meters and a building area of 300,400 square meters. The total value of fixed assets is 869 million yuan, and teaching and research equipment is valued at 260 million yuan. The university has three sports facilities and two libraries with 1.187 million volumes of books and 17 domestic and international databases. There are 304 laboratory facilities.
The university has nine academic colleges, including the College of Economics and Management, College of Animal Science and Technology, College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, College of Agriculture, College of Biological and Pharmaceutical Engineering, College of Food Science and Nutrition Engineering, College of Electrical and Information Engineering, College of Mechanical and Civil Engineering, and the College of Foreign Languages. It also has teaching institutions such as the Marxism College, Physical Education Department, and Adult Education College. The university enrolls students from all 28 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities of China. There are currently 13,927 full-time students, including 11,744 undergraduates, 2,179 associate degree students, and 4 international students. In 2015, the Jilin Provincial Department of Education selected the university as a pilot institution for jointly cultivating graduate students.
The university has 972 staff members, including 714 full-time teachers, 55 laboratory instructors, 300 senior faculty members, 203 doctoral-level teachers, and 88 graduate advisors. There are 387 "dual-skilled" teachers who possess both professional and teaching expertise. The university is home to distinguished experts, including one recipient of the State Council Special Allowance, one national outstanding teacher from the Huang Yanpei Vocational Education Award, and 6 provincial-level innovative talents. The university also boasts 6 provincial-level teaching teams, 2 provincial-level teacher studios, and numerous other awards and honors.
The university offers 49 undergraduate programs, including 2 Sino-foreign cooperative education programs, and 13 associate degree programs. Its programs cover six disciplines: engineering, agriculture, literature, science, economics, and management. The university has one national-level first-class program, one national-level featured program, one national pilot program for professional reform, and four provincial-level distinctive programs. The university has won one national-level second prize for teaching achievements and four provincial-level first prizes.
The university has 24 provincial-level research platforms, including a provincial agricultural product testing center. In the past three years, the university has undertaken 804 research projects, including 222 national and provincial-level projects, with funding totaling 141 million yuan. It has developed 15 new varieties, formulated 10 local standards, published 32 monographs, and authorized 83 invention patents. The university has been awarded 21 provincial-level science and technology prizes, including 19 second and third prizes for leading projects. The university has also contributed significantly to the "rural revitalization" strategy, providing training to over 23,000 new-type professional farmers and technical personnel in the past three years.
The university focuses on enhancing the quality of applied talent training by continually reinforcing its "platform + module" theoretical teaching and "three practicals and one research" practical teaching system. It emphasizes industry-academia cooperation and integration, with each of its nine colleges having established talent development councils with local enterprises. The university collaborates with leading enterprises such as Zhuhai Century Dingli Group, Da Bei Nong Group, and Changchun Xuyang Industrial Group to cultivate talent. The university has signed employment agreements with over 400 domestic large and medium-sized enterprises and established 1 innovation and entrepreneurship training base and 2 provincial-level education and teaching practice bases, improving the employment quality and career outcomes of its graduates.
The university is actively engaged in international education exchanges and cooperation, establishing partnerships with over 30 institutions in more than 10 countries, including the United States and South Korea. The university has sent students and faculty members abroad for research, study, and cultural exchanges. In the past three years, nearly 30 international students have studied at Jilin Agricultural Science and Technology University, with cooperative undergraduate programs with universities in South Korea, including Kyungnam University and Chungbuk University.
After over a century of growth and development, Jilin Agricultural Science and Technology University has honed its motto of "Virtue, Knowledge, Diligence, and Action" and adopted the educational philosophy of "People-oriented, Development-focused, Feature-based, and Socially Responsible." The university has been recognized as a "National Science Popularization Education Base," "National Food and Nutrition Education Demonstration Base," and a "National New-type Vocational Farmer Training Demonstration Base." It has also received numerous provincial honors, including "Advanced Unit in Spiritual Civilization Construction" and "Advanced Unit in Legal Education."
