Shanghai Normal University Tianhua College, established in 2005, is a non-profit private undergraduate institution in Jiading district, celebrated for its Jiangnan-style campus.
Spanning 634 acres with 110,000 m² of greenery, the campuses blend traditional pavilions with modern intelligent teaching complexes, and over 100 advanced professional training rooms equipped with cutting-edge instruments and safety systems. The library houses over 1 million physical books, 800,000 e-books, 500,000 e-journals, and 15 databases, supported by AI assistants for efficient learning. Smart student apartments, laundry rooms, delivery stations, and coffee corners enhance convenience; while sports venues, art studios, and mental health centers provide comprehensive services.
The college enrolls over 11,000 students from 31 provinces, with a faculty of more than 870, including more than 600 full-time teachers, over 50% holding doctoral degrees or overseas experience. Two counselor teams ensure student well-being. It comprises 10 secondary colleges, offering 30 majors, such as AI, Integrated Circuit Design, Automotive Service Engineering, Preschool Education, Finance, and Art Design. Among them, 14 are provincial-level and 7 are applied pilot undergraduate majors, alongside 2 national and 23 Shanghai-level first-class undergraduate courses, forming a multidisciplinary layout centered on education, engineering, and health.
Internationalization is a priority, with three Ministry of Education-approved joint programs, one joint institute, and 14 international cooperative programs covering 50% of majors. Partnerships span the U.S., U.K., Germany, France, Singapore, Finland, and Japan, attracting over 120 foreign teachers annually. Together with nearly 160 overseas doctors, they form over 300 courses. Students can study or intern abroad during their four years, supported by an IELTS Training Center, Writing Center, and Overseas Further Study Center. Joint bachelor-master programs with universities in the U.S., U.K., Singapore, and New Zealand further broaden academic horizons.
The college leads the National Alliance of International Exchange among Private Colleges, hosting the Sino-Finnish Teacher Education Center and private international forums. Its Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education case won the Shanghai Teaching Achievement Award.
With over 200 enterprise partners across cultural media, education, finance, manufacturing, and 34 student clubs in science, literature, art, and sports, including a five-star reporter group. The college provides rich internship opportunities. It nurtures more than 700 debate teams, a symphonic wind orchestra, and 10+ sports teams, fostering a vibrant campus culture filled with intellectual exchanges, artistic expressions, and athletic competitions.
