To put words in someone's mouth
Qūjiě mǒurén de yìsi, jiè biérén de zuǐ shuōhuà, tì mǒurén shuō
【解释】To say that someone means one thing when the person really meant something else.
- My mother always put words in my father's mouth when she wanted to reprimand us. Actually father is much more tolerant.
Māma yào pīpíng wǒmen shí zǒng shì jiè bàba de zuǐ shuōhuà, qíshí bàba bǐ māma gèng bāoróng wǒmen.
- Obviously you are putting words in my mouth. The other day I didn't say I would definitely be absent, I said let's play it by ear
Xiǎnrán nǐ qūjiě wǒ de yìsi le. Nàtiān wǒ bìng méi shuō wǒ yīdìng huì quēxí, wǒ zhǐshì shuō zánmen kàn jùtǐ qíngkuàng zài dìng.
