Cam: Yajie, this week on Chinese Studio we learned what to say when we order food, drinks, call the waiter or waitress over, and pay for the bill.

我要一瓶啤酒(wo3 yao4 yi4 ping2 pi2jiu3). I want to have a bottle of beer. 服务员(fu2wu4 yuan2) waiter or waitress. 我要几张餐巾纸(wo3 yao4 ji3 zhang1 can1jin1zhi3). I’d like some napkins. 服务员,买单。(fu2wu4yuan2, mai3dan1.)Excuse me, can I get the bill? 多少钱?(duo1shao3 qian2) How much is it? 开张发票(kai1 zhang1 fa1piao4 ). Can I get a receipt? Cam: How do I ask for a bottle of beer?
YJ: You can say “我要一瓶啤酒(wo3 yao4 yi4 ping2 pi2jiu3)”.
Cam: 我要一瓶啤酒(wo3 yao4 yi4 ping2 pi2jiu3).
YJ: 我(wo3) means I. 要(yao4) means want. y-a-o, the fourth tone. 
Cam: 我(wo3) 要(yao4) 
YJ: 一(yi4), means one. 瓶(ping2), p-i-n-g, the second tone, means bottle. 
Cam: 一瓶 (yi4 ping2) one bottle. 
YJ: 啤酒 (pi2jiu3), beer.
Cam: 啤酒 (pi2jiu3). 
YJ: 我要一瓶啤酒(wo3 yao4 yi4 ping2 pi2jiu3), I’d like to have a bottle of beer.
Cam: 我要一瓶啤酒(wo3 yao4 yi4 ping2 pi2jiu3).
 YJ: 我要一杯茶。(wo3 yao4 yi4 bei1 cha2) , I want to have a cup of tea.
Cam: cup in Chinese is 杯(bei1), right?  
YJ: Yes. 杯(bei1), b-e-i, the first tone. 
Cam: 杯(bei1).
YJ: And茶(cha2) is tea, the second tone.
Cam: 茶(cha2)
YJ: 我要一杯茶。(wo3 yao4 yi4 bei1 cha2).
Cam: 我要一杯茶。(wo3 yao4 yi4 bei1 cha2), I want to have a cup of tea.

Conversation 1:

Cam: So,Yajie, waiter or waitress in Chinese is服务员(fu2wu4 yuan2), right? 
YJ: Yes. There they are, and you can ask for some napkins. Napkin is “餐巾纸(can1jin1 zhi3)”.
Cam: 餐巾纸(can1jin1 zhi3)
YJ: 餐巾(can1jin1) is napkin. 
Cam: 餐巾(can1jin1). 
YJ: 纸 (zhi3), z-h-i, the third tone means paper. 
Cam: 纸 (zhi3).
YJ: 餐巾纸(can1jin1zhi3) napkin. 
Cam: 餐巾纸(can1jin1zhi3). 
YJ: 我要几张餐巾纸(wo3 yao4 ji3 zhang1 can1jin1zhi3), I’d like some napkins.

Yajie: You can say 服务员,买单。(fu2wu4yuan2, mai3dan1.)

Yajie: 服务员(fu2wu4yuan2), waiter or waitress. 
Cam: 服务员(fu2wu4yuan2).
Yajie: 买单 (mai3dan1), to pay for the bill.

Yajie: 买 (mai3) means to buy. M-a-i, the third tone.
Cam: 买(mai3).
Yajie: 单(dan1), d-a-n, the first tone. Here it means bill. 
Cam: 单(dan1)
Yajie: 服务员,买单。(fu2wu4yuan2, mai3dan1.)Excuse me, can I get the bill? 
Cam: 服务员,买单。(fu2wu4yuan2, mai3dan1.)Yajie,how do I say “can I get a receipt?” in Chinese? 
Yajie: It’s 开张发票. (kai1 zhang1 fa1piao4)
