Wuhan College of Arts and Sciences is a private, full-time undergraduate institution independently approved by the Ministry of Education. The school was founded in 2002, originating from the former Jianghan University College of Arts and Sciences. The main campus is located in the core area of the Changjiang New District, along the banks of the Yangtze River and the shores of She Shui Lake. The university currently has nearly 16,000 students.
The university aims to become a "well-known domestic, first-class provincial, distinctive and high-level applied private university" and insists on leading with high-quality party building to run a university that satisfies the people. Since its establishment, the university has cultivated and delivered tens of thousands of professionals to society. The university currently offers 46 undergraduate programs and 16 diploma programs. Among them, the Finance program is a key development program for independent colleges in Hubei Province, and the English program is a "Comprehensive Reform Pilot Program" for undergraduate programs in Hubei Province. Courses such as "Biochemistry," "Introduction to Chinese Culture (English)," "Marketing," "Video Production and Editing," "Basic Nursing," "Journalism Photography," "Advertising Creative and Planning," "Brand Image Planning," "New Media Advertising," and "C Programming" have been listed as "First-Class Undergraduate Courses in Hubei Province." The Department of English in the School of Foreign Languages has been recognized as an "Outstanding Grassroots Teaching Organization in Hubei Province," while the School of Humanities and Arts has been designated as a "Model Party Branch for Party Building in Provincial Universities." The Nursing Department of the School of Medicine, the Law Department of the School of Politics and Law have been awarded the "Outstanding Female Staff Award in the Education System of Wuhan." The university has an International Exchange Center and cooperates with well-known international universities to cultivate global talents.
With continuous investment from its founder, Wuhan He Run United Group, the university has been enhancing its teaching facilities and faculty development. The university has established a range of specialized laboratories, including nondestructive testing, MRI, CT, human specimen, and integrated engineering training centers. These facilities fully support the educational and research needs of the students. The university currently employs 778 full-time and part-time faculty members, with nearly 30% holding senior professional titles and 25% being dual-qualified teachers. Among the faculty are winners of the National Natural Science Foundation's Excellent Youth Scientist Fund, Outstanding Young Scientist Fund of the Hubei Provincial Natural Science Foundation, experts with government special subsidies, as well as doctoral graduates from "Double First-Class" universities. The faculty also includes international teachers from the United States, the UK, France, Germany, Australia, South Korea, and other countries.
In recent years, the university has adhered to the "regional, applied, and distinctive" school orientation, continually refining its specialties in fields like nondestructive testing and medical health, aiming to improve the quality of applied talent training. Relying on scientific research strengths from institutions like the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Huazhong University of Science and Technology, the university has developed a leading edge in integrating industry, academia, and research in nondestructive testing in China. The university has collaborated with well-known domestic enterprises such as Zhongke Innovation and Nanjing Huazhong Testing, offering "order-based training" for students, helping them achieve the goal of "employment upon graduation." As the largest private institution in Wuhan for medical education, the university's talent cultivation quality has received high recognition from society and employers. In 2023, the university’s nursing graduates achieved a pass rate of 98.7% in the national nursing qualification exam, significantly higher than the national average of 36%. The employment rate for graduates reached 92%, with 69.74% securing jobs in Grade A hospitals. In 2023, the university was named "Most Noteworthy Undergraduate Institution of 2023" by the Hubei Education Examination Network. According to the 2024 Alumni Association China University Rankings, the university ranked first in the "Regional First-Class Private Universities in China" in the fields of science and humanities.
The university aims to train high-quality applied talents to meet the national and regional economic and social development needs. Guided by the OBE (Outcome-Based Education) concept, the university adheres to a "student-centered" and "teaching-centered" approach, following the path of "integration of liberal arts and sciences, fusion of science and education, and integration of industry and education." The university has signed cooperation agreements with well-known companies such as Beijing Zhongsoft International Group, Dongfeng Lantu Automotive Technology Co., Ltd., Beijing Zhongbei Future Education Group, Wuhan Jinshi Xing Robotics Automation Engineering Co., Ltd., and others. It has established the "Wuhan University of Arts and Sciences Digital Nondestructive Testing Innovation Research Institute" and the "Wuhan University of Arts and Sciences Translational Medicine Research Institute," as well as industry schools like "Wuhan University of Arts and Sciences Zhongsoft International Big Data," "Wuhan University of Arts and Sciences Intelligent Manufacturing," and "Wuhan University of Arts and Sciences Zhongbei Future." These partnerships and specialized programs are designed to improve the quality of applied talent training and ensure high-quality employment for graduates.
