Dalian Minzu University is located in the beautiful coastal city of Dalian and is under the administration of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission. It is one of over 110 centrally-administered universities in China and is the only national ethnic higher education institution in Northeast China and the coastal open regions, with a focus on engineering and coordinated development across multiple disciplines. The university is committed to fostering a sense of shared community among the Chinese ethnic groups, with the goal of building a high-level modern comprehensive university.

The university currently operates two campuses: the Development Zone Campus and the Jinshitan Campus, covering a total area of 1,717 acres. The university was established in 1984 and began enrolling students in 1993. It is a joint institution built by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, the Ministry of Education, the Liaoning Provincial Government, and the Dalian Municipal Government. In 2024, the university was honored with the title of "National Model Collective for Ethnic Unity and Progress" by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council.

The university offers 58 undergraduate programs across eight major academic disciplines: Engineering, Science, Economics, Management, Literature, Law, Arts, and Agriculture. It has six first-level master's degree programs, including Biochemical Engineering, Ethnology, Mathematics, Soil and Water Conservation and Desertification Control, Agricultural and Forestry Economics Management, and Nanoscience and Engineering. Additionally, it offers 16 professional master's degree programs in fields such as Electronic Information, International Business, Materials and Chemical Engineering, Biology and Medicine, Forestry, Design, Applied Statistics, Digital Economy, Law, Translation, Mechanical Engineering, Resources and Environment, Energy and Power, Tourism Management, Audit, and Cultural Heritage. The university's undergraduate programs in fields like Biological Engineering, Industrial Design, Product Design, Network Engineering, Electronic Information Engineering, Applied Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Information and Computing Science, and Accounting have been recognized as national first-class programs. A total of 27 programs have been recognized as provincial first-class programs, and the university has established eight national characteristic programs.

Dalian Minzu University also has 10 nationally recognized first-class undergraduate courses, 2 courses selected for the Ministry of Education's "Curriculum Ideology and Politics" demonstration program, and 161 provincially recognized first-class undergraduate courses. The university has been approved to set up 9 provincial-level modern industry colleges and offers 12 provincial key disciplines, including 10 provincial and ministerial-level key laboratories, 8 provincial and ministerial-level engineering research centers, and 18 provincial research bases in the humanities and social sciences. It has 2 national virtual teaching research centers and 4 provincial-level virtual teaching research centers, alongside 14 provincial-level off-campus practice bases and 9 provincial undergraduate teaching demonstration centers.

The university has been awarded two second-place National Science and Technology Progress Awards, three second-place National Teaching Achievement Awards, and other prestigious accolades, including first and second place in the Liaoning Province Natural Science and Philosophy and Social Science Awards. The university has also been recognized for its achievements in national and provincial innovation and research.

Dalian Minzu University was named one of the first 50 universities in China recognized for exemplary graduate employment practices by the Ministry of Education in 2010. It has received numerous honors, including "National Model Collective for Ethnic Unity and Progress" in 2009, 2014, 2019, and 2024, and "National Demonstration Unit for Ethnic Unity and Progress" in 2020. The university has also received recognition for its exemplary party-building work, political education, and student entrepreneurship programs, including several awards in Liaoning Province for excellence in teaching, campus culture, and graduate employment.

The university is home to over 1,300 faculty members, with nearly 70% of full-time professors holding doctoral degrees. More than 160 faculty members have received national and provincial-level honors, including national talent programs, model teachers, experts receiving special government allowances, and leaders in ethnic affairs and education.

The university recruits students from all 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities across China, as well as from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. It offers a wide array of educational and research programs, focusing on the development of ethnic unity, cultural exchanges, and training professionals who contribute to the regional and national economy.

Since its founding, Dalian Minzu University has graduated over 70,000 students, maintaining an employment rate of over 90% for 24 consecutive years. The university's focus on innovation in undergraduate education, bilingual teaching, and international course offerings has been widely recognized.
