Daqing Normal University is located in Daqing, a famous oil city in China, known as the "Green Oil Capital," "City of a Hundred Lakes," and "Hometown of Northern Hot Springs." The university was originally founded in 1965 as Daqing Normal School. In 1980, it was upgraded to Daqing Normal College with approval from the Ministry of Education. In 1993, it was restructured into Daqing Higher Vocational College. In May 2004, the Ministry of Education formally approved the establishment of Daqing Normal University based on Daqing Higher Vocational College.

After more than half a century of development, the university has persevered through hard work and exploration, forming the motto "Self-improvement and Excellence" and the educational philosophy "Quality-based, Pursuing Excellence." It has established a unique educational feature based on the "Daqing Spirit" and "Iron Man Spirit." The university is committed to serving basic education, local economic and social development, and the petroleum and petrochemical industries, while continually advancing the construction of an application-oriented undergraduate university with local characteristics. The university passed the undergraduate teaching work evaluation and accreditation in 2011 and 2018. In 2017, it was approved for the construction of a master's degree program. In 2019, the university was selected as a "Demonstration University for Characteristic Application-Oriented Undergraduate Programs" in Heilongjiang Province. In 2020, it was chosen as a "Demonstration University for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform" in Heilongjiang Province. The university has also received numerous honors, including "Advanced Collective in Student Work" and "Advanced Unit in Teacher Ethics Construction" in Heilongjiang Province.

The university has two campuses, the Main Campus and Fangxiao Campus, covering an area of 618,800 square meters, with a total building area of 257,600 square meters. The library holds 1.34 million books and 774,800 e-books. The total value of fixed assets is 623 million yuan, with teaching and research equipment valued at 114 million yuan. The university enrolls students from 22 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions across China, with 12,795 full-time undergraduate students. Since 2009, the university has been jointly cultivating master's students with Northeast Normal University and Northeast Petroleum University.

The faculty consists of 772 staff members, including 564 full-time teachers. Among them, 280 hold senior titles (professors and associate professors), and 167 hold doctoral degrees or are pursuing them. The percentage of faculty members with master's degrees or higher is 92.23%. There are 239 "dual-qualified" teachers, and the university employs 6 foreign faculty members. The university boasts 2 professors who enjoy government subsidies from Heilongjiang Province and 5 second-level professors. It also has 7 provincial-level teaching masters, 11 provincial-level outstanding teachers, 1 provincial-level young teaching expert, and 6 high-level talents.

The university has 14 colleges offering 45 undergraduate programs across eight academic disciplines, including literature, science, education, engineering, law, management, arts, and economics. Ten programs, including Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese International Education, and Primary Education, have been recognized as first-class undergraduate programs in Heilongjiang Province. English and Preschool Education are national-level first-class programs, and Preschool Education is a key provincial discipline.

The university focuses on talent cultivation, reforming its application-oriented talent training model, strengthening practical teaching, and deepening industry-education integration. It is committed to continuously improving the quality of education. The university has established 2 national first-class undergraduate courses, 19 provincial first-class undergraduate courses, 4 provincial-level boutique online open courses, and 5 provincial-level "Curriculum Ideology and Politics" demonstration courses. The university is also home to the Heilongjiang Provincial Higher Education Feature Teacher Education Base and one of the first provincial-level language promotion bases.

The university has built 212 off-campus internship, training, and practice bases, including 1 provincial-level student practice base and 23 campus-level demonstration internship bases. It has been approved for 42 Ministry of Education "Industry-Education Collaboration" projects. Since the "13th Five-Year Plan," the university's students have won 2,783 awards in various academic competitions, including 528 national-level awards and 1,423 provincial-level awards. The employment placement rate for graduating students has consistently remained above 80%.

The university also focuses on high-quality scientific research. It has established 1 national-level research innovation platform, 11 provincial-level key laboratories, collaborative innovation centers, and think tanks, and 14 departmental-level research platforms. It serves as the vice-chairman unit of the Heilongjiang Oil and Gas Resources Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance. The Daqing Spirit Research Center is a provincial research base for philosophy and social sciences, and the Heilongjiang Oilfield Application Chemistry and Technology Key Laboratory is a provincial key laboratory. Since the "13th Five-Year Plan," the university has undertaken 304 provincial and ministerial projects, including 5 national social science foundation projects, 2 national natural science foundation projects, and 1 sub-project of a major national social science foundation project.

The university has made significant progress in building international cooperation. It has established friendly relations with universities in countries such as the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, Australia, Malaysia, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Ireland. These collaborations include joint student cultivation, faculty exchanges, study-abroad programs, internships, and academic exchanges. Since the "13th Five-Year Plan," over 300 students have participated in exchange programs abroad, and nearly 100 international students from countries such as Russia, Japan, South Korea, the UK, Spain, Canada, Guinea, Congo, and Morocco have studied at the university.
