Furong College, Hunan University of Science and Arts, was established in 2002 with approval from the Hunan Provincial Government and recognized by the Ministry of Education as an independent institution offering full-time undergraduate education. In 2004, it successfully passed the Ministry of Education’s special inspection and evaluation of its operational conditions and teaching quality. The college is located in Changde, Hunan Province, an international wetland city, a national sanitary city, a Chinese Excellent Tourist City, and known as the "City in the Peach Blossom Spring." The campus covers an area of 496 acres, with a building area of more than 136,000 square meters. The college has five teaching departments: the Department of Literature and Social Sciences, the Department of Science, the Department of Engineering and Technology, the Department of Economics and Management, and the Department of Arts and Sports. It currently has more than 430 full-time and part-time faculty members. The college offers 41 undergraduate programs, 24 of which are available for this year’s intake, and has over 7,100 enrolled students, with students coming from 22 provinces (municipalities, autonomous regions) across China. The campus environment is elegant, with lush greenery, and it is equipped with modern teaching buildings, laboratories, libraries, sports facilities, student dormitories, and various educational facilities that are constantly being improved.
The college relies on the high-quality teaching resources of its parent institution and adheres to the educational philosophy of "student-centered, market-oriented, quality-driven." It views educational quality as the foundation of its existence and implements an applied undergraduate talent training model based on "quality + ability + specialization." The college integrates academic education with vocational skill development, responding to the regional economy and societal demand for talent. It aims to cultivate high-level, application-oriented technical and management personnel with innovative thinking. The college has selected excellent teachers from its parent institution to form the core faculty, recruited over 100 faculty members with master’s degrees or higher, and trained more than 20 doctoral degree holders. The teaching staff is strong, and in recent years, 24 faculty members have won provincial-level teaching achievement awards, and 27 awards in provincial-level teaching competitions (first, second, and third prizes). The college has provincial-level excellent teaching and research offices, such as those for basic computer courses, and a series of provincial-level excellent courses in ethics and law. It has also established numerous student internship and training bases to ensure the overall improvement of students' comprehensive quality and vocational skills, providing high-quality teaching services.
In 2023, the college was awarded multiple honors, including the Excellent Unit for both the University and College Management Evaluation and the Comprehensive Evaluation, the First College Culture Construction Excellence Award of Hunan University of Science and Arts, and the Excellent Organization Award for the “Promoting Integrity and Building a Clean and Honest College” theme cultural competition. Additionally, the college received recognition for its excellent service in the 2023 "Three Rural Areas" summer social practice activity. In academic competitions, students won six provincial-level first prizes, 13 second prizes, and 22 third prizes, including a national first prize in the "Higher Education Press Cup" Short Video Competition for telling China's story in foreign languages and breakthroughs in the Hunan University Student Mathematics Competition, with 13 award winners, ranking among the top in similar institutions.
The college's graduate employment rate has consistently remained high, with continuous improvements in employment quality. The rates of students pursuing postgraduate studies, civil service exams, and public institution positions have steadily increased. In 2024, 80 graduates were accepted into master’s programs, 30 into civil service positions, and 144 into public institutions.
The college follows the national higher education enrollment plan and admits students based on their exam scores within the approved cutoff lines for each province (city, autonomous region) for the same batch of college entrance exams. Students who complete the required coursework and meet the graduation criteria will be awarded a bachelor's degree by Furong College if they qualify for the degree, and a bachelor's diploma upon successful graduation.
