Huaibei Normal University is located in Huaibei, Anhui Province, a nationally recognized civilized city and garden city. It is a key provincial comprehensive university. Established in 1974 as the Huaibei Branch of Anhui Normal University, it was renamed Huaibei Coal Mining Teachers College in December 1978, with approval from the State Council, and was affiliated with the former Ministry of Coal Industry, enrolling students from across the country. In September 1998, the university adopted a management system in which the central government and local authorities jointly supported the university, with management mainly under the province of Anhui. In March 2010, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be renamed Huaibei Normal University. In 2003, the university was granted the right to confer master's degrees. In 2007, it received an "Excellent" rating in the Ministry of Education’s undergraduate teaching evaluation. In 2009, the university was included as a provincial-level institution for doctoral and postdoctoral training. In 2018, the university passed the Ministry of Education's high-level undergraduate teaching audit evaluation.
After 50 years of development, the university has remained committed to its foundational mission of moral education and talent cultivation for the Party and the country. It has pursued excellence through reforms and innovation, fostering a deep dedication to grassroots service and teacher education. The university has cultivated highly qualified, professional talent with a strong sense of social responsibility, professional expertise, and a willingness to serve and contribute to society. Through the efforts of generations of Huaibei Normal University staff, the university has established a spirit of "hard work, perseverance, selfless dedication, and the pursuit of excellence," and a motto of "Broad Learning, Cautious Thinking, Ambitious Aspiration, and Steady Action."
The university has two campuses, Shanshan and Binhu, covering an area of over 2,400 acres. The campus is beautifully situated near mountains, with a rich cultural atmosphere. It has been recognized as a "Garden Unit in Anhui Province" and a "National Model Green Unit." The total building area is over 670,000 square meters, and the university holds a collection of more than 6.6 million books, both physical and electronic. The university is well-equipped with advanced laboratory and research facilities, totaling more than 36,000 pieces of equipment worth over 374 million RMB, which meet the needs of teaching, research, and talent cultivation. The university currently has 15 colleges, offering 75 undergraduate programs, with its undergraduate programs entering the first-tier category in Anhui Province in 2018. It also offers 17 first-level master's degree programs and 11 master's professional degree programs. There are currently over 20,500 full-time undergraduate students, 2,282 graduate students, and more than 20,000 students in various adult higher education programs.
The university boasts a strong faculty with a balanced structure. It has 1,450 full-time faculty members, including 676 Ph.D. holders and 689 master's degree holders. Among the faculty, 610 have senior professional titles. Fifteen faculty members have received national honors such as "Leaders of the 1000-10,000 Project," and "Outstanding Teachers," while 187 faculty members have been recognized by provincial and national programs such as special allowances from the State Council, "Wanjiang Scholars," and "Jianghuai Cultural Masters."
The university continues to deepen reforms in education and teaching, constantly improving the quality of education. It currently has 11 national first-class undergraduate programs and 23 provincial first-class undergraduate programs. The university is also home to 2 national-level industry-university collaboration bases and 1 Ministry of Education demonstration project (Pre-School Teacher Training Program). Ten programs have passed national teacher education accreditation, and one program has passed the Ministry of Education’s engineering education accreditation. The university also has 41 provincial-level featured programs, 38 provincial-level experimental and training teaching centers, 31 provincial-level teaching teams, and 64 projects focused on industry-university-research collaboration and innovative talent development. There are 98 provincial first-class (excellent) courses. In the last five years, the university has undertaken more than 130 teaching research projects at the provincial and national levels, winning over 50 provincial-level teaching achievement awards, including 6 special awards. Students have received over 1,000 national-level honors in various competitions. The university's graduate placement rate remains one of the highest among teacher training institutions in Anhui, with an average employment satisfaction rate of 94.8%.
The university strengthens cooperation with local governments and enterprises, building collaborative education mechanisms and promoting industry-university-research integration to support regional development. In recent years, it has signed cooperation agreements with local governments and businesses, establishing several industry-university-research collaborative bases that integrate internships, employment, and entrepreneurial training.
Internationally, the university has established educational partnerships with 59 universities and institutions in countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Taiwan. It has created research centers such as the "Huaibei Normal University Country and Regional Studies Center" and the "China-Laos Cultural Exchange Research Center," promoting international joint talent cultivation. Since 2016, the university has welcomed students from partner universities in Japan for short-term exchanges. In 2019, the university began enrolling international students for degree programs, and currently has 39 foreign students enrolled. In the past three years, more than 140 faculty and students have participated in academic exchanges, research, and study abroad programs with international partner universities.
Since its founding, the university has sent over 130,000 graduates into society, earning widespread acclaim for its academic standards and receiving high recognition from higher authorities. The university has been awarded the "Civilized Unit" title in Anhui Province for multiple terms, and has contributed significantly to the city of Huaibei’s achievement as a National Civilized City. The university has been recognized as a leading institution in promoting curriculum-based ideological and political education and has received numerous honors for its contributions to talent development and social practice.
