Xinjiang Institute of Engineering(新疆工程学院)

ocated in the beautiful city of Urumqi, Xinjiang Institute of Engineering is a regular undergraduate university governed by the autonomous region and one of the nation's first 100 pilot universities for applied sciences. Built for coal and thriving on engineering, it is an applied university that inherits a "red" legacy and carries forward excellent traditions.

History & Development

The university originated in 1958 when 163 officers and soldiers from the Second Preparatory School of the General Logistics Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army were collectively transferred to Xinjiang to establish the Urumqi Coal Mine School. This was Xinjiang's first school dedicated to training talent for the coal industry.

• 1985: Renamed Xinjiang Coal Junior College.

• 1994: Renamed Xinjiang Industrial Higher Junior College.

• 2012: Upgraded to Xinjiang Institute of Engineering with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

Over the past 60-plus years, the university has upheld the "Mine Soul" spirit of "hard work, selfless dedication, seeking truth and pragmatism, and bearing heavy burdens to go far," and cultivated the motto of "Unity of Knowledge and Action, Pursuit of Excellence." It has gradually developed into an applied university characterized by its focus on energy resources, safety and emergency response, and the low-altitude economy.

In recent years, the university's Party Committee has established a strategic working approach focusing on strengthening Party building, maintaining stability, grasping reform, promoting transformation, seeking development, and striving for first-class standards. The university covers an area of nearly 2,000 mu (approximately 330 acres).

• Colleges: 13 secondary colleges (plus 2 industry colleges) and 1 teaching department.

It serves as the main supporting institution for the Tianshan Laboratory and houses 61 on-campus laboratories.

• Library: Holds approximately 1.238 million physical books, 537,500 electronic books, and over 40 Chinese and foreign language databases.

• Qualifications: 89% of teachers hold a Master's degree or above; 22.2% hold a Ph.D.

• Experts: The faculty includes members of national teaching steering committees, State Council special allowance recipients, and numerous regional outstanding experts and teaching talents.

• Projects & Awards: Over the past five years, it has undertaken more than 1,000 research projects at various levels, winning 1 first prize and 8 second prizes in the Autonomous Region Science and Technology Progress Awards.

• Platforms: Houses 21 provincial and ministerial-level research platforms, including the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Green Mining for Xinjiang Coal Resources.

• Industry Integration: Spearheaded the creation of regional industry-education integration communities for new energy, new materials, and green coal/chemical development, establishing 126 industry-education integration bases.

Notably, the Student Mechanical Design Innovation Association earned the honorary title of "Xiaoping Science and Technology Innovation Team."

• Employment: The university cultivates high-quality applied talents for front-line production, management, and service. Its graduate employment rate consistently ranks among the top of undergraduate institutions in Xinjiang.

Over the past 60 years, the university has provided society with more than 130,000 graduates. Most have become the backbone of Xinjiang's coal and industrial sectors, making positive contributions to regional stability and economic development.

Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the university will deeply implement the spirit of the 20th National Party Congress and General Secretary Xi Jinping's directives on education and his inspections of Xinjiang.
