Zhengzhou Institute of Aeronautical Industry Management is located in Zhengzhou, a national historical and cultural city. Situated in the southern part of the North China Plain, bordered by the Yellow River to the north and Mount Song to the west, it enjoys convenient transportation. It is the only full-time regular undergraduate institution in Henan Province with distinct aerospace characteristics.
The university was founded in 1949, the same year as the founding of the People's Republic of China, and was originally named Pingyuan Provincial School of Finance and Economics. During the nationwide adjustment of 16 aviation schools in 1964, it was renamed Zhengzhou Aviation Industry School. In 1978, it was upgraded to Zhengzhou Aviation Industry Management Junior College, and in 1984, it was further upgraded to Zhengzhou Institute of Aeronautical Industry Management. It has successively been affiliated with the Ministry of Aviation Industry, the Ministry of Aerospace Industry, and the Aviation Industry Corporation of China. In 1999, the university's affiliation transitioned from the Aviation Industry Corporation of China to a system co-sponsored by the central and local governments, with daily administration primarily managed by Henan Province. In 2008, it was approved as a project construction unit for master's degree authorization in Henan Province. In 2013, it was approved as a master's degree awarding institution. In 2017, it was selected into the National Basic Ability Construction Project of Western and Central China, became a university jointly constructed by the People's Government of Henan Province and the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), and entered the ranks of province-ministry co-constructed universities. In 2020, it was selected as a university for the construction of distinctive backbone disciplines in Henan Province. In 2021, it was approved as a general project construction unit for doctoral degree authorization in Henan Province. In 2025, it was approved as a key project cultivation unit for doctoral degree authorization in Henan Province.
The university adheres to the motto of "Rigorous, Pragmatic, Pioneering, and Enterprising," and carries forward the spirit of "Serving the Country through Aerospace, Innovating and Striving for Strength." It upholds the educational philosophy of "Moral Education First, Teaching as the Center, Quality as the Highest Priority, and Educating People as the Foundation," and adheres to the behavioral code of "Dedicated to Learning and Work, Strict, Cautious, Meticulous, and Practical." Oriented toward the aerospace industry and regional economic and social development, the university maintains the disciplinary construction approach of "Strengthening aerospace-related engineering disciplines, refining traditional economics and management disciplines, and building a system dominated by aerospace engineering with coordinated multi-disciplinary development." This has established a strong competitive edge in fields such as aerospace engineering technology, and aviation economics and management.
The university covers an area of over 2,800 mu, with a building area of 1.02 million square meters and laboratory spaces covering 100,000 square meters. The total value of fixed assets is 2.6 billion RMB, and the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 420 million RMB. The library holds 2.46 million printed books and 31 Chinese and foreign language databases.
The university encompasses nine disciplinary categories: Engineering, Management, Literature, Science, Economics, Law, Arts, Education, and Interdisciplinary Studies. It consists of 19 teaching schools (departments), 1 academy, 1 Chinese-foreign cooperative educational institution (South Ural Institute), and 1 School of Continuing Education. Currently, there are 8 first-level master's degree authorization points, 20 professional master's degree authorization points, 2 provincial distinctive backbone discipline groups, 1 provincial distinctive backbone discipline group urgently needed for special needs, and 15 provincial key disciplines. The university currently offers 65 undergraduate majors, including 3 national-level distinctive majors and 9 provincial-level distinctive majors; 13 national-level first-class undergraduate major construction points, 12 provincial-level first-class undergraduate major construction points, and 9 provincial-level major comprehensive reform pilot projects. There are 11 national-level first-class undergraduate courses, 16 provincial-level postgraduate education high-quality courses, postgraduate ideological and political demonstration courses, and excellent online postgraduate course projects, as well as 144 provincial-level first-class undergraduate courses, excellent online open courses, ideological and political model courses, and general education demonstration courses. Two achievements have won the Second Prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award for Higher Education (Undergraduate).
The university enrolls students from 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) across the country, with a current enrollment of over 25,000 full-time undergraduate students, postgraduate students, and international students. There are over 2,000 active faculty and staff members, including 708 teachers with senior professional titles and 703 teachers with doctoral degrees. The university places great emphasis on international exchange and cooperation. It has successively established friendly and cooperative relations with more than 80 universities and institutions in over 30 countries and regions, including the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Poland, South Korea, and Tanzania, carrying out multi-form, deep-level, and wide-ranging international exchanges and collaborations. It hosts undergraduate-level Chinese-foreign cooperative educational projects with the University of the Highlands and Islands in the UK and SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Poland, achieving full coverage of projects and institutions in the field of Chinese-foreign cooperative education. It collaborated with the University of Dodoma in Tanzania to establish a Confucius Institute, which has won titles such as "Global Advanced Confucius Institute," "Advanced Unit in Public Diplomacy Work," and "China-Tanzania Friendship Envoy Award." The university also established the "Alliance Française de Zhengzhou," the first Alliance Française in the province.
The university cultivates high-quality, interdisciplinary talents who meet the requirements of the new era, possess firm ideals and beliefs, solid theoretical foundations, outstanding practical abilities, and strong innovative capabilities. It is an important talent cultivation base for the aerospace industry and regional economic and social development. Over the past five years, it has won 46 national awards and 450 provincial awards in the China International College Students' Innovation Competition, the "Challenge Cup" National College Student Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Work Competition, and the "Challenge Cup" College Student Entrepreneurship Plan Competition. It has been approved for 354 national and provincial college student innovation training programs. Students have won over 3,000 provincial and above awards in specific disciplinary competitions such as the Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (CUMCM) and the National College Student Mechanical Innovation Design Competition. The ZUA Makerspace was included in the national makerspace filing list. The university was approved as one of the first batch of innovation and entrepreneurship education practice base construction universities in Henan Province and approved as a provincial vocational skill level recognition center.
