The Applied Technology College of Soochow University is located in Zhouzhuang, Kunshan—known as China's No. 1 water town. Situated within the "Yangtze River Delta Regional Integrated Development" zone, it is 20 kilometers away from Soochow University's Dushu Lake Campus. Bordering Shanghai to the east and Suzhou to the west, it is adjacent to the Suzhou Industrial Park, Kunshan Economic and Technological Development Zone, Huaqiao International Service Business Park, and Wujiang High-tech Development Zone. With its beautiful environment, fresh air, and first-class facilities, the campus embodies a classic architectural style of "small bridges, flowing water, and academies," making it an ideal place of study for students.

History and Academic Profile

Founded in November 1997, the college was established by Soochow University—one of the first universities included in the national "Project 211" and "Plan 2011," and a "Double First-Class" university co-sponsored by the Ministry of Education and the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government. In 2005, it was restructured into an independent college at the undergraduate level.

The college offers 28 undergraduate majors. Notably:

  • Fashion Design and Engineering and Electrical Engineering and Automation have been approved as first-class undergraduate major construction sites for Jiangsu universities.

  • Fashion Design and Engineering was also approved as a brand major construction site for industry-education integration in Jiangsu Province.

  • Fashion and Apparel Design was approved as a brand major construction engineering project for Jiangsu universities.

There are currently over 9,900 enrolled students. More than 60% of the faculty teaching various courses hold senior professional titles, and over 80% are "double-qualified" (dual-profession) teachers. The faculty includes 1 outstanding teaching team under the Jiangsu Province "Qinglan Project," 3 middle-aged and young academic leaders, and 14 excellent young backbone teachers.

A Professional Teaching Steering Committee, composed of over a hundred experts from various social sectors and universities, plays a vital role in major structuring, faculty recruitment, teaching plan approval, internship base provision, student career guidance, and employment recommendations.

  • Student Awards: 453 awards in various professional skills and academic competitions (69 national awards and 384 provincial awards).

  • Employment: The annual average employment rate of graduates exceeds 95%, and the quality of the graduates has earned unanimous praise from employers.

International Exchange

The college actively expands international exchanges and has established cooperative relationships with more than 20 universities in countries and regions such as the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Canada, Australia, Japan, and South Korea. It has also received approval from the Ministry of Education for 2 Sino-foreign cooperative educational projects.

Future Outlook and Strategic Development

In recent years, the college has actively seized the strategic opportunity provided by the national initiative guiding a batch of standard undergraduate universities to transition into applied technology universities. It has comprehensively implemented the ISO9001 Quality Management System and the Performance Excellence Management Model.

Taking advantage of key milestones—such as being approved to join the Association of Universities (Colleges) of Applied Sciences, being selected as one of the first Ministry of Education ICT Industry-Education Integration Innovation Base institutions, and becoming a pilot institution for the "Internet + Made in China 2025" Industry-Education Integration Promotion Plan—the college actively aligns with Kunshan's six-year action plan for transformation, upgrading, and innovative development.
