À propos de l'Université

Chongqing Institute of Humanities and Science originated from the Xingzhi Yucai College of Southwest Normal University, established in 2000. In 2013, it was restructured into an independent undergraduate institution under the supervision of the Chongqing Municipal Education Commission, as approved by the Ministry of Education. The institute is a pilot research university for the national applied technology-oriented university strategy and a cultivation site for professional master’s degree education in Chongqing.

Located in Caoshui Subdistrict, Hechuan District, Chongqing, where the renowned educator Tao Xingzhi established a school during the War of Resistance Against Japan, the university recruits students from 22 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities across China. It currently has over 20,000 full-time students.

Over the past 24 years, the university has remained committed to becoming a socially responsible, high-quality private undergraduate institution. Inspired by Tao Xingzhi's educational philosophy, it focuses on developing outstanding academic programs, distinct institutional characteristics, high-level talent cultivation, and strong technical research capabilities, striving to establish itself as a top-tier private applied university in China.

The institute comprises 13 secondary colleges and offers 45 undergraduate programs across nine disciplines: literature, law, management, economics, arts, education, science, engineering, and agriculture. Its teaching resources include 22 structured laboratories (with 3 designated as experimental teaching demonstration centers), 146 specialized labs, 259 off-campus practice bases, and a doctoral workstation for returned overseas scholars under the Chongqing Western Returned Scholars Association. The library houses over 2.48 million printed books, 1.5 million e-books, and 39 databases. Academic achievements include 2 national first-class undergraduate courses, 1 municipal key discipline, 1 key development discipline, 3 Chongqing first-class disciplines, 4 Chongqing characteristic disciplines, and 41 Chongqing-level online open and first-class courses, among others.

The university also has 2 municipal research platforms, 2 municipal educational research experiment bases, 1 municipal science popularization base, 3 district-level technology innovation centers, 3 district-level humanities and social sciences research bases, and 3 district-level science popularization bases. It operates 2 university-level key laboratories and research bases. The institute has undertaken 2 National Arts Fund projects, 170 provincial or ministerial research projects, and 171 education and teaching reform studies.

In its efforts to uphold moral and intellectual development as fundamental tasks, the university has pioneered innovative talent cultivation practices inspired by Tao Xingzhi's educational philosophy, including establishing the Xingzhi Innovation Experimental Class. Over the past three years, its faculty and students have won more than 300 awards in national competitions such as music education skills showcases, the National College Student Art Performance Festival, the National College Student Advertising Art Competition, the "Challenge Cup" National Entrepreneurship Competition, and the Blue Bridge Cup Software and Information Technology Competition. They have also secured over 1,700 awards in regional contests like the Southwest Division of the National Logistics Simulation Competition and the Chongqing Division of the National Mathematics Modeling Competition.

The institute’s original drama Graduation Season was the only entry from Chongqing selected for the 4th China Campus Drama Festival, winning the "Outstanding Play Award" in the "China Drama Awards – Campus Drama" category. It also represented Chongqing in the 10th and 11th National Ethnic Minority Traditional Sports Games, earning 3 gold medals. The university has been recognized with numerous accolades, including "National Demonstration Unit for Ethnic Unity and Progress," "Outstanding Private Higher Education Institution in China," "Top 100 Private Education Institutions in China," "National Model for Ecological Civilization Education," and "Model Private University for Comprehensive Reform in Chongqing," among others.

Since its establishment, the university has produced over 80,000 graduates for national economic and social development. Nearly 2,000 alumni have pursued master’s degrees at renowned universities such as Zhejiang University, Fudan University, Beijing Normal University, Jilin University, Sichuan University, Chongqing University, Southwest University, Monash University in Australia, the University of Minnesota in the U.S., and the University of Portsmouth in the U.K. Among the 2024 graduating class, 250 students were admitted to master's programs.

Looking to the future, the university remains guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. It firmly upholds socialist educational principles, fully implements its mission to cultivate virtue and talent, adheres to the motto “Unity of Knowledge and Action, Service to Society,” and embraces the spirit of “Bringing a heart full of dedication, leaving without taking a blade of grass.” Guided by its strategic development principles of being people-oriented, quality-driven, characteristic-focused, and talent-powered, the university strives to become a top-tier, distinctive, and high-quality private applied university in China.
