Brief Introduction
Founded in September 1958, our niversity is the only comprehensive university in the border areas of Hunan, Hubei, Chongqing and Guizhou Provinces, a key university determined by the state Program of Regional Development and Poverty Alleviation in Wuling Mountainous Areas and Project of Foundation Capability Construction in Midwestern Colleges and Universities.
Discipline
Our university offers 73 majors for undergraduate students, covering the 12disciplines of philosophy, law, literature, history, economics, management, education, engineering, science, agriculture and arts. The university possesses two centers for post-doctoral studies, one doctoral program of first-level discipline, 14 master programs of first-level discipline, three master programs of second-level discipline and three programs for professional master as well.
Faculty and Students
There are 1700 teaching staffs in the university, among whom 1100 are full-time teachers, including about 200 professors and 490 associate professors. 84% of them have doctorate and master degree. Our university enrolls students from all the provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in China. Presently there are more than 22000 full-time undergraduate students and 800 post-graduate students for doctoral and master degrees, among whom around 30% are minority students.
