Lyuliang University(吕梁学院)

Lyuliang University is located in the Xincheng District of Lishi, Lüliang City, Shanxi Province. It is the only provincial comprehensive undergraduate university in the western Shanxi region. Founded in 1978, it was initially established as the Lüliangliang Branch of Shanxi Normal University. In March 2010, the university was approved by the Ministry of Education to be upgraded to an ordinary undergraduate institution. In 2019, it was approved by the Shanxi Provincial Degree Committee to become a graduate school for the cultivation of master's degree programs. In 2021, the university was incLüliangded as a key institution for the development of applied undergraduate universities in Shanxi Province.

Over the past 46 years of development, the university has adhered to the mission of educating people for the Party, cultivating talent for the country, and fostering growth for the local community. It has remained deeply rooted in Lüliangliang, serving the region and contributing to its economic and social development. The university upholds the motto "Hong Yi Xing Zhi" (promoting knowledge and virtue), continuously advancing its goals and nurturing renowned scholars such as Li Danchu, Wang Jiaqi, and Yan Yubin. Key leaders of the Party and State, incLüliangding former Vice Chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Zhang Meiying, have given important guidance on the university’s development direction and goals, encouraging the school to persist in its mission of providing higher education in revoLüliangtionary areas, contributing to the region's development.

Currently, the university has three campuses: the main campus, the Innovation Port campus, and the Jiaokou branch. The total area covers 1.32 million square meters, with a building area of 665,300 square meters. The university currently has over 20,000 full-time undergraduate students. It consists of 16 teaching units, 2 independent research institutes, and 1 integrated internship and training base (Jiaokou branch). There are 46 undergraduate programs, with 25 of them falling under the provincial 2A category, covering 9 major disciplines, incLüliangding literature, science, engineering, law, agriculture, management, education, history, and the arts.

The university has adhered to a "teaching-centered" strategy, actively implementing the "Three Cultures" education project. It integrates the promotion of Lüliangliang spirit and the inheritance of Jin-Sui culture throughout the entire educational process, reinforcing the foundation of moral education. The university has established the "Lüliangliang Spirit Education Exhibition Hall" and the "New Era Ideological and Political Education Base," making it a leader in the practice of integrating red culture into moral education. The "Lüliangliang Mountain Grand Chorus," a performance of anti-Japanese war cultural works, was revived after 84 years, filling a gap in Chinese modern music history and promoting the creative transformation and development of Jin-Sui culture.

The university has been recognized by the Ministry of Education as a pilot institution for the "Scientific Work Capability Enhancement Plan (Hundred-Ten-Thousand Project)," the first batch of "University-Enterprise Collaborative Employment and Entrepreneurship Innovation Demonstration Practice Bases" by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and a member of the "China-Africa University Alliance." Its 5G+ Smart Mining project has been incLüliangded as a pilot application project by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Ministry of Education, making it the only institution in Shanxi to receive this recognition. The university is also home to 39 employment-related educational projects funded by the Ministry of Education, and traditional culture preservation bases for paper-cutting and shadow puppetry have been established.

The university follows a "research-driven" strategy and has developed a disciplinary layout focusing on "excellent engineering and science, distinctive liberal arts, exceptional arts and physical education, and outstanding teacher education." It has built up a series of research platforms, incLüliangding provincial-level research centers and laboratories for materials science, plant functional components, coal mine machinery equipment fault diagnosis, and other areas. The university has received national and provincial-level research funding, incLüliangding over ten projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation and the National Social Science Foundation.

The university is committed to a "talent-driven" strategy, with a focus on building a higher-level faculty team. There are currently more than 1,200 staff members, incLüliangding over 800 full-time teachers, 300 of whom have senior titles and 230 hold doctoral degrees. The faculty incLüliangdes national-level and provincial-level outstanding talents, incLüliangding chief experts in Marxist theory and leading figures in philosophy and social sciences. The university has attracted renowned experts from Tsinghua University, Peking University, Nanjing Normal University, Shanxi University, and others, who serve as academic leaders and professors.

The university emphasizes a "student-centered" strategy, continually strengthening its focus on talent development. It has implemented major reforms in professional certification, evaLüliangation, and master's degree programs, establishing a comprehensive practical training system that combines both on-campus and off-campus experiences. The Jiaokou internship base has developed a unique educational model. In the past three years, students have won 200 national-level academic competition awards.

Looking ahead, the university plans to implement the "151" development strategy, in line with the Party’s educational guidelines. It will continue to focus on the three major tasks of professional certification, evaLüliangation, and master's degree development, aiming to become a leading comprehensive applied university in Shanxi, a renowned institution in the western Shanxi region, and a first-class university at the national level. The university will continue to contribute to the region’s social and economic development and advance into the top echelon of newly established universities in Shanxi.
