Shanxi University of Electronic Science and Technology is a provincial public university that was established by the transformation of the Modern College of Humanities and Sciences of Shanxi Normal University. It is a general undergraduate institution specializing in engineering. Approved by the Ministry of Education on November 21, 2023, and officially endorsed by the Shanxi Provincial People's Government on December 15, 2023, the university is led by the provincial government and managed by the provincial Department of Education, with joint construction by both the province and the city. The campus covers an area of 1208 acres, with a building area of over 450,000 square meters.
The university has gradually developed a multidisciplinary academic system with a focus on electronic information fields, blending disciplines such as science, engineering, literature, management, arts, and history. It currently offers 30 majors, 22 of which are in science and engineering.
The university focuses on the cultivation of applied talents, tailoring its programs to industrial demands, and updating content based on technological advancements. It has established a new talent cultivation model. The university has invested a total of 120 million yuan in teaching and research equipment, with 155 teaching and training laboratories, and a library collection of 712,396 volumes. It has built a 9,912.55 square meter Engineering Innovation and Training Center, which includes 16 internship and training workshops. The university has also jointly established 5 laboratories with enterprises such as Jin Nan Steel Group, accumulating over 20 million yuan in funding.
The university implements a talent-driven development strategy, currently employing 292 full-time faculty members, including 54 with doctoral degrees and 228 with master's degrees. There are 19 senior professional and technical titles, 19 associate senior titles, 6 doctoral advisors, and 20 master’s advisors.
The university strengthens the construction of academic innovation teams and platforms for applied technological innovation. It has jointly applied for and successfully approved the Shanxi Province Higher Education “1331 Project” - Metal Materials Smart Forming Industry College, in collaboration with Jin Nan Steel, Jianbang Group, and Huaxiang Group. It has also received approval for the Shanxi Provincial Natural Science Laboratory Platform - Advanced Metal Low-Carbon Manufacturing and Pollutant Treatment Laboratory. Furthermore, it has co-established an industry-education integration training base with Taiyuan University of Science and Technology - the Shanxi High-end Equipment Intelligent Manufacturing Industry-Education Integration Training Base, Linfen Branch. The university has been approved for 67 research projects at various levels, including one National Natural Science Foundation General Program project, one sub-project under Shanxi Province's Major Science and Technology Special Plan, four projects under the provincial Department of Science and Technology’s basic research plan, and one project under the Provincial Philosophy and Social Sciences Planning Program.
The university deepens industry-education integration, proactively aligning with regional socio-economic development. It organizes a series of activities such as "Doctoral Expert Enterprise Tour," "First Signing Ceremony of Doctoral Expert Enterprise Tour," and "Follow-up Activities of Doctoral Expert Enterprise Tour," covering 17 counties and districts in Linfen City and 65 key enterprises in the Linfen Economic Development Zone. Aimed at addressing the technological needs of enterprises, the university has contributed to 76 projects, with a total contract value of 11.33 million yuan.
The university will strengthen the Party's leadership, fully implement the Party's education policies, adhere to the socialist direction of education, fulfill the fundamental task of cultivating virtue, focus on the region’s high-quality transformation and development, and prioritize the training of applied, versatile talents that serve regional economic and social development. The university aims to enhance the position of electronic information disciplines and build itself into a distinctive, high-level applied undergraduate university, making a greater contribution to the province’s high-quality development.
