Nanjing Normal University Zhongbei College was founded in 1999, jointly established by the prestigious Nanjing Normal University and the Nanjing Normal University Education Development Foundation. It is one of the first independent colleges approved by the Ministry of Education and a public welfare institution registered with the Jiangsu Provincial Civil Affairs Department.
Nanjing Normal University, the sponsor of the college, is a "Double First-Class" university and a key university in Jiangsu Province’s high-level university construction initiative. The university has made remarkable achievements in talent cultivation, scientific research, and social services, gaining widespread recognition both domestically and internationally. Zhongbei College inherits Nanjing Normal University’s fine traditions and advanced educational philosophy, relying on the university’s high-quality educational resources. It adheres to the motto "Cultivate Virtue and Foster Benevolence, Pursue Knowledge and Act Diligently" and follows the guiding principles of "Progressing Zhongbei, Harmonious Zhongbei, Joyful Zhongbei." The college upholds a culture of "Unity, Diligence, Simplicity, and Dedication" and focuses on the goal of building a high-level application-oriented university with a distinct regional focus and characteristics. The college is committed to improving undergraduate talent development quality and cultivating high-quality, innovative, application-oriented talents.
With the strong support of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education and the Danyang Municipal Party Committee and Government, the college relocated to Danyang in 2017. The new campus is located at No. 8 Zhengde Road, Danyang City, covering a total area of 900 acres, with a planned total construction area of 387,500 square meters. The campus is equipped with modern infrastructure, excellent teaching and research facilities, making it a modern, intelligent, ecological, humanistic, low-carbon, and open campus.
The college emphasizes professional development as the driving force, aiming to improve the alignment between talent cultivation and industry demand. It has formed four major professional groups: language, management, engineering and technology, and arts. The college currently has over 10,800 students and 466 staff members. It consists of nine secondary colleges: the College of Humanities, the College of Foreign Languages, the School of Business, the College of Law and Politics, the College of Information Engineering, the College of Engineering, the College of Life Sciences and Environmental Engineering, the College of Fine Arts and Design, and the College of Music. The college offers 40 undergraduate programs in fields including economics, law, literature, science, engineering, management, and arts.
The college adheres to the educational philosophy of "Establishing Virtue and Cultivating Talents," emphasizing the importance of teachers as the foundation of education. It strives to improve the quality of application-oriented talent cultivation and is actively exploring a talent training model suitable for independent colleges. The college has gradually formed a talent cultivation pattern that is "broad in foundation, interdisciplinary, and distinctive." It provides classified training for students to meet their diverse development needs, actively promoting overseas study programs. It has established partnerships with over ten prestigious universities and institutions in countries such as the United States, France, Australia, South Korea, Malaysia, and Japan, offering students opportunities for studying abroad. The college also emphasizes career planning and qualification training, actively constructing practical teaching bases, and strengthening skills-based education.
The college focuses on building a high-quality teaching faculty, which is morally exemplary, highly skilled, structurally balanced, dynamic, and innovative. It actively encourages and supports teaching reforms, fosters the development of "dual-qualified" teachers, strengthens practical teaching, and improves teaching quality, bringing vitality to the educational work. Over 80% of the faculty hold intermediate or senior professional titles, with many young teachers selected for Jiangsu Province’s "333 High-level Talent Cultivation Program" and the "Blue and Green Project" for outstanding young backbone teachers.
In the new historical period, Nanjing Normal University Zhongbei College has entered a new phase of development.
