Nanjing University of Science & Technology Zijin College was established in 1999. In 2004, it was approved by the Ministry of Education of China to become an independent undergraduate college, jointly established by Nanjing University of Science and Technology (NJUST) and social entities. NJUST, under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, is a key national university with a graduate school, known for its rigorous academic approach, strong faculty, comprehensive disciplines, and distinctive features. It is part of China’s first batch of "Project 211," "Project 985 Advantageous Discipline Innovation Platform," and "Double First-Class" universities. NJUST guides the formulation and implementation of teaching plans, selects, recommends, and approves core course instructors, and ensures teaching quality oversight. Leveraging NJUST’s superior educational resources and advantages, Zijin College is committed to cultivating application-oriented, interdisciplinary, high-quality professionals with solid foundations, broad knowledge, strong practical skills, innovative awareness, a spirit of creativity, humanistic values, and technological literacy.
The college is located at the foot of Purple Mountain in Xianlin University Town, eastern Nanjing, covering 613 acres, with nearly 300,000 square meters of facilities for teaching and living. Equipped with state-of-the-art learning and living facilities and an ever-upgrading smart campus system, it provides an excellent environment for student development and growth. Xianlin University Town, home to 12 universities including Nanjing University and Nanjing Normal University, boasts beautiful natural scenery and a rich cultural atmosphere, situated over 10 kilometers from the city center. The Nanjing Metro Line 2 directly connects Xianlin University Town to NJUST and the city center, with shuttle buses running daily between Zijin College and NJUST, taking just 20 minutes per trip. The prime location and convenient transport make campus life efficient and comfortable.
The college comprises six secondary schools: the School of Intelligent Manufacturing, the School of Electronic Engineering and Optoelectronic Technology, the School of Computer and Artificial Intelligence, the School of Intelligent Control, the Business School, and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. It offers 39 undergraduate programs with over 14,000 enrolled students. Renowned NJUST professors serve as academic leaders and core faculty, supplemented by full-time teachers with master's or doctoral degrees and industry experts as external mentors. This robust teaching team has achieved remarkable success. In recent years, 10 faculty members have been recognized under Jiangsu Province's "Blue Project" as excellent young backbone teachers, and one was selected for the "333 Project" third-tier training program. Faculty members have excelled in teaching competitions, winning 37 provincial or higher-level awards since 2019, including first prizes in the Jiangsu Province College Teaching Innovation Competition and the Microlecture Teaching Competition.
Focused on cultivating application-oriented talent, the college actively explores innovative educational reforms. It centers professional development around student learning needs, restructuring talent cultivation models to support personalized growth. Curriculum systems emphasize both general education and specialization, integrating in-class and extracurricular, on-campus and off-campus resources. The college currently has five Jiangsu Province first-class undergraduate programs (Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Automation, Computer Science and Technology, Accounting, and Public Administration) and has earned star ratings in provincial evaluations for four programs. Additionally, Computer Science and Technology was approved as a provincial industry-education integration model program, and Accounting received similar recognition.
Deepening academia-industry integration, the college collaborates with leading companies like Huawei, Microsoft, Apple, and Texas Instruments through funding, technical support, joint research centers, and practice bases. It has established national-level pilot bases for manufacturing informatization and provincial talent training bases. Research capacity has significantly improved, ranking 26th in the 2021 "Scientific Research Competitiveness Evaluation for Private Universities and Independent Colleges." Faculty have published over 120 high-level articles, authored numerous books, and secured awards and intellectual property, leading among similar institutions in Jiangsu.
The college achieves excellent student outcomes, with postgraduate admission rates exceeding 10% annually and some programs reaching 30%. Students have won numerous national and provincial awards in innovation and professional competitions, accumulating 261 national awards and 1,185 provincial awards in the past five years. Graduates consistently achieve over 95% employment rates, earning widespread recognition for their skills and competence.
Zijin College embraces internationalization, partnering with universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Germany, South Korea, and Japan. It offers over 20 collaborative programs and direct pathways to top global universities. In December 2022, it was certified as an IELTS computer-based test center, and in 2023, it received national recognition for excellence in IELTS test center operations.
In 2023, Zijin College ranked 7th nationally among independent colleges in the ABC China Rankings (CNUR). It has received numerous accolades, including "National Advanced Independent College," "Top 10 Independent Colleges in Jiangsu," and "China's Influential Independent College" by major organizations. The college continues to expand its impact, aiming to become a high-level, application-oriented undergraduate university with distinct characteristics and excellence in education.
