Anhui Science and Technology University (AHSTU) is a provincial undergraduate institution with a long history of education, profound cultural heritage, and coordinated development across multiple disciplines. The university originated from the Wubei Senior Agriculture and Forestry School in 1950 and began offering undergraduate education in 1965. After various transitions, including Anhui Fengyang Agricultural College, Fengyang Branch of Anhui Agricultural College, Wubei Agricultural College, Anhui Technical Teachers College of Agriculture, and Anhui Technical Teachers College, it was renamed Anhui Science and Technology University in 2005. It began independently training postgraduates in 2012 and became a master's degree-granting institution in 2021. Over 75 years of weathering challenges and blazing new trails, generations of AHSTU faculty and students have carried the torch and strived diligently, leading to substantial development in the university's endeavors. The university currently has 21,000 full-time undergraduate and master's students, and has cumulatively provided the nation and local economic and social development with over 130,000 outstanding graduates.
Adhering to the university motto of "Illustrious Virtue, Pursuing Knowledge, Earnest Practice, and Innovation," and promoting the AHSTU spirit of "Arduous Struggle, Pioneering Innovation, Pragmatism, and Selfless Dedication," the university implements five major strategies: "Characteristic Development, Team Development, Service Development, Green Development, and Safety Development." It has become a high-level applied university characterized by agricultural science, centered on agriculture, engineering, and management, with mutually supportive and coordinated development across multiple disciplines. It has successively been recognized as: National Model University for Graduate Employment Experience, National Model University for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Experience, University Implementing the National University Practice Education and Innovation & Entrepreneurship Base Project, National Advanced Unit for College Student Social Practice, University Involved in the National Education Modernization Promotion Project, Excellent University in the Ministry of Education's Undergraduate Teaching Evaluation, University Implementing the Ministry of Education's "Excellent Engineers Education and Training Program," Anhui Provincial Civilized Unit, Anhui Provincial Advanced Unit for Talent Work, One of the First Batch of Anhui Provincial High-Level Applied University Construction Institutions, Anhui Provincial "Dual Characteristic" University, Anhui Provincial Model Unit for College Graduate Employment, and Anhui Provincial Advanced Collective for Employment Work, among others.
The university covers an area of over 2,600 mu (approximately 173.3 hectares/430 acres) and currently has the Fengyang Campus, Longhu Campus, and Chuzhou Campus. The Fengyang Campus is located in the ancient city of Ming Zhongdu, the hometown of Zhu Yuanzhang, the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty; the campus is shaded by green trees, adorned with flowers, and boasts a beautiful environment. The Longhu Campus is situated in Bengbu University Town, adjacent to the Bengbu University Science and Technology Park, the High-Speed Rail Station, and the Longzihu Scenic Area. The Chuzhou Campus is located in the Chuzhou Higher Education, Science and Technology Innovation City, close to Nanjing Jiangbei New Area, and is rich in scientific and educational resources. It currently possesses 33 scientific research platforms, including the National Regional Crop Variety Trial Station in Fengyang County, Anhui Province, Anhui Provincial Key Laboratories, Anhui Provincial Engineering Research Centers, and Anhui Provincial International Joint Research Centers. It has 18 practice education and training bases, such as the National Off-Campus Practice Education Base for College Students, Provincial Demonstration Experiment and Training Centers, Provincial Student Labor Education Practice Bases, and Provincial Innovation and Entrepreneurship Practice Teaching Centers. The library holds over 1.71 million printed books and more than 1.34 million electronic books.
The university currently has 14 secondary colleges, 66 undergraduate programs, and 14 master's degree authorization points. It boasts 11 provincial-level disciplines (including Provincial Key Disciplines, Provincial Peak Cultivation Disciplines, and Provincial Characteristic Disciplines), 12 national-level programs (including National First-class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites, Comprehensive Reform Pilot Programs, Characteristic Programs, Programs for the Excellent Engineers Education and Training Plan, and Reform Pilot Programs for the Compound Applied Excellent Agricultural and Forestry Talents Education and Training Plan), and 46 provincial-level programs (including Provincial First-class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites, First-class (Brand) Programs, Comprehensive Reform Pilot Programs, and Characteristic Programs). It has won 2 Second Prizes for National Teaching Achievement Awards, and 4 Special Prizes and 14 First Prizes for Provincial Teaching Achievement Awards. It has been approved for 2 National First-class Courses and has undertaken 5 National Research and Practice Projects on New Engineering, New Agriculture, and New Liberal Arts.
The university has over 1,400 faculty and staff, including over 420 teachers with senior professional titles such as professor and associate professor, and over 430 teachers with doctoral degrees. The faculty includes 13 National Model Teachers and National/Provincial Excellent Teachers, 2 talents from the Ministry of Education's Program for New Century Excellent Talents, 7 Provincial Academic and Technical Leaders and Reserve Candidates, 10 experts receiving special government allowances from the State Council and the Provincial Government, and 3 Anhui Provincial Technical Leading Talents. It possesses 31 National and Provincial Teaching Teams, 15 Provincial Scientific Research and Innovation Teams, 30 Provincial Teaching Masters, and 51 Provincial Teaching Newcomers.
The university vigorously promotes scientific research and technology development. In the past five years, it has undertaken over 2,900 scientific research projects of various levels, including the National Natural Science Foundation and Social Science Foundation, with over 800 projects at the provincial/ministerial level or above. It has published over 70 academic monographs, released over 1,100 high-level academic papers, and won over 80 scientific research awards at the municipal/departmental level or above, including one Second Prize for the National Natural Science Award and one Second Prize for the National Technology Invention Award. It has bred 48 new plant varieties at the provincial level or above and formulated 31 national, industry, and local standards. Over 1,900 patents have been authorized, including more than 600 invention patents, placing the university on the top 100 list for invention patents in Anhui Province for many consecutive years. It has carried out over 2,000 industry-university-research cooperation projects with local governments and related enterprises. The university vigorously implements the "International (Overseas) Cooperative Education Program," carefully organizes study abroad/travel plans for outstanding students, provides professional master's degree education for international students, and has established exchange and cooperation relationships with 26 overseas universities.
In its long history of educational practice, the university has cultivated an excellent teaching style characterized by "Dedication and Devotion, Cultivating Virtue and Nurturing Talent, Rigorous Scholarship, and Striving for Excellence," and an excellent learning style of "Diligent Learning, Apt Thinking, Assiduous Research, and Teamwork." Students have won 2,584 awards at the provincial level or above in various innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, such as the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition and the "Challenge Cup," including 432 national-level awards. The postgraduate entrance exam enrollment rate for students has consistently remained high, reaching 60% in some majors, and the employment rate for graduates has always been maintained above 95%.
Stepping onto a new historical journey, the new generation of AHSTU faculty and students adhere to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for the New Era, thoroughly study and implement the spirits of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Second and Third Plenary Sessions of the 20th CPC Central Committee, diligently carry out the spirit of the National and Provincial Education Conferences, implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, focus on internal development, strengthen reform empowerment, promote high-quality development, and strive to fully build the university into a modern, national first-class applied university with distinct characteristics and prominent advantages.
