Geely University is a full-time private undergraduate institution independently established with approval from the Ministry of Education. Founded in Beijing in 1999 by Geely Holding Group, a Fortune 500 company, it was originally known as Beijing Geely University. In April 2014, it was upgraded to an undergraduate university and renamed Beijing Geely College. Responding to the national call to "relieve non-capital core functions," the university proactively applied to relocate from Beijing to Chengdu. With the support of the Ministry of Education, Beijing, Sichuan Province, Chengdu City, and Peking University, it was approved in March 2020 to relocate to the Eastern New District of Chengdu and renamed Geely University.
