Dalian University of Finance and Economics (DUFE) was established in 2001 and, in 2013, was officially approved by the Ministry of Education to be converted from the Jinqiao Business College of Northeastern University of Finance and Economics into an independent, regional, applied undergraduate institution, specializing in finance and economics, and governed by the Liaoning Provincial Department of Education. In 2015, the university was identified as one of the first 10 pilot universities in Liaoning Province to fully transition to an applied education model.
Located in the beautiful coastal city of Dalian, the university is adjacent to the Jinshitan Scenic Area, Daqiushan Scenic Area, and the Liaoning Free Trade Zone. The campus offers an elegant environment where architectural, cultural, and natural landscapes harmoniously blend. It is equipped with modern teaching and experimental training facilities, with multimedia classrooms using Huawei virtual desktop cloud technology. The university has built several comprehensive virtual simulation laboratories integrating teaching, research, training, and practice, based on big data, IoT, and VR technologies. These facilities meet the needs for training applied talents. The modern library houses over 1.7 million physical books, 377 types of journals in Chinese and foreign languages, and 1.6 million e-books, providing students with over 2,900 study seats. The university also has large sports venues, including a sports stadium, swimming and fitness center, and stadium, which can host large-scale sports events. The student living areas are equipped with facilities such as washing machines, air conditioning, and private bathrooms, providing a comfortable and convenient living environment.
DUFE has distinct characteristics in finance and economics, with a focus on economics and management programs. The disciplines of economics, management, law, and liberal arts are mutually supportive and coordinated in development. Currently, the university offers 33 undergraduate programs, with 82.7% in economics and management, establishing a core specialization in these fields. The university has 11 teaching departments, including the College of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence, Business School, Economics School, Accounting School, Management School, Law and Humanities School, Marxist School, Public Teaching Department, Sports Teaching Department, Innovation and Entrepreneurship School, and Digital Application School.
Accounting and Finance are among the first-class undergraduate programs in Liaoning Province. The Accounting program is a pilot program for comprehensive reform in provincial higher education institutions. The university’s accounting teaching team is recognized as an excellent teaching team in Liaoning Province. The university has 1 provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration center, 42 provincial-level first-class undergraduate courses, 3 provincial-level ideological and political demonstration courses, 3 demonstration teaching teams, and 6 provincial-level teaching awards. DUFE also has 8 provincial-level off-campus practice education bases, 2 provincial-level new think tanks, and several other research and educational bases, including a national "Annual Brand Strength University" award in 2018.
The university emphasizes moral education as its core task and has established a comprehensive ideological and political work system. The "Three Full Education" model (full participation, full process, full coverage) is continually being deepened. The university has built multiple ideological education venues, including the "History of the People's Republic of China Museum," the "History of the Chinese Communist Party Museum," and several other thematic exhibition halls, covering topics such as the history of Chinese currency, digital intangible cultural heritage, and national spirit. These venues span nearly 3,000 square meters. DUFE's educational goal is to cultivate high-quality applied talents who are patriotic, socially responsible, innovative, and have solid foundations, practical skills, and well-rounded development in morality, intellect, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor. The university combines general education and professional education, integrating theoretical and practical teaching, with a unified system that encourages both classroom learning and extracurricular activities.
In terms of student development, DUFE places strong emphasis on scientific and humanistic education. It has established multifunctional science experience centers, including an environmental education exhibition, physics inquiry and demonstration labs, and a variety of cultural and art spaces, such as the Classical Chinese Studies space and dance rehearsal rooms. The university incorporates extra-curricular activities into the talent training plan, fostering students’ comprehensive abilities through case-based, project-based, discussion-based, and situational teaching methods. It also emphasizes practical teaching and industry-university cooperation, and has established several industry-specific modern industry colleges, such as the Yonyou Digital Finance Industry College, Alibaba Digital Trade Industry College, and several others. The university also offers numerous special experimental classes, such as those for innovation talents and digital financial data.
The university is committed to fostering entrepreneurship and innovation. It collaborates with enterprises to build virtual simulation experimental centers and has established five fully equipped innovation and entrepreneurship incubation bases. The university has successfully entered the second batch of labor education demonstration schools in Liaoning Province. In the past three years, DUFE students have won numerous national and provincial innovation and entrepreneurship awards. The university currently has 14,423 full-time students from 31 provinces, cities, and autonomous regions across China. DUFE's graduate employment rate is among the highest for private universities in Liaoning Province, and in 2023, the university was recognized as a "Demonstration Unit for Graduate Employment and Internship."
DUFE also follows an international education strategy and has established partnerships with numerous universities abroad. Since 2002, it has worked with the University of Adelaide, Australia, on a dual-campus joint training program, with over 600 students having graduated with dual degrees. The university also offers specialized international accounting (ACCA) and financial risk management (FRM) programs, and has developed joint graduate training projects with the University of South Australia.
Looking ahead, DUFE will continue to be guided by Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, fully implementing the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress. The university will uphold the Party's educational policies, focus on the mission of moral education, and follow a socialist educational direction. Embracing the motto "Cultivate Virtue and Knowledge, Pursue Learning and Integrity," the university will continue to develop applied education, strengthen its internal development, and emphasize the distinctiveness of its financial and economic specialties. It will serve the needs of Dalian, Liaoning, and the broader national and social development, striving towards the goal of becoming a leading, well-known, high-level application-oriented private university in finance and economics.
