About University

Guangdong Polytechnic College is a full-time, regular undergraduate institution approved by the Ministry of Education. Its predecessor was the Zhaoqing Science and Technology Vocational and Technical College, established in 2004. In 2014, the school was renamed Guangdong Polytechnic College based on the "Notice of the Ministry of Education on Approving the Establishment of Guangdong Polytechnic College on the Basis of Zhaoqing Science and Technology Vocational and Technical College" (Jiao Fa Han [2014] No. 124). In the same year, the first batch of five undergraduate programs began admitting students. In 2018, the school was approved to confer bachelor's degrees.

Since its transition to an undergraduate institution, the college, under the leadership and support of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, the provincial government, the Provincial Education Work Committee, the Provincial Department of Education, as well as local party committees and governments, has adhered to Xi Jinping's Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. The school fully implements the Party’s educational policies, strengthens the leadership of the Party and the construction of grassroots Party organizations, and fulfills the fundamental task of moral education. The college has focused on transforming from higher vocational education to applied undergraduate education, actively adapting to the regional economic and social development needs and the province's goal of increasing the gross enrollment rate in higher education. The college aims to improve the quality of talent cultivation and meet local needs, with a development focus on standardized management, internal development, and fostering the initiative and creativity of faculty, staff, and students. It also aims to strengthen investments, improve the educational environment, and protect the rights of teachers and students, ensuring progress in all areas of the college.

The school currently has 9 academic departments, including the School of Marxism, the Basic Education Department, and the General Education Center. It offers 37 undergraduate programs across 6 major disciplines: engineering, economics, management, literature, arts, and education. Engineering programs account for 19 of these, making up 55.88% of the total. The college employs 1,689 staff members, with 1,276 full-time teachers. There are currently over 34,800 full-time students enrolled. The campus covers an area of 918,600 square meters, with a total building area of 675,300 square meters. The school has 53,300 square meters of laboratory and practical training facilities, with teaching and research equipment valued at 207.1 million RMB. The library holds 3.99 million volumes of books, including 2.49 million physical books and 1.5 million e-books.

The school has made notable progress in academic development and scientific research. It is home to 1 Guangdong Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center, 2 provincial-level key disciplines, 1 Zhaoqing City Engineering Technology Research Center, and 1 Zhaoqing City key discipline. It has 2 provincial-level first-class program construction points and 5 provincial-level first-class undergraduate courses.
