Harbin Cambridge University is a full-time general undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education of China. Located in Harbin, the beautiful ice city, it was originally known as Heilongjiang Cambridge College of Further Education. From 2001 to 2003, it successively cooperated with Harbin University of Science and Technology and Heilongjiang University to operate as an independent college, and launched undergraduate programs in 2004. In April 2011, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be transformed into an independent general undergraduate institution and renamed Harbin Cambridge University. Founded and managed by alumni of Peking University, the university adheres to the education philosophy of Student-Centered Development, the school motto of Aspiration Embracing Heaven and Earth, Learning Integrating China and the West, and the core values of Openness, Innovation, Endeavor, Vitality, committing to building a high-level application-oriented university with distinctive features.
The university covers a land area of 722,900 square meters, with a construction area of 447,800 square meters. It is equipped with 181 laboratories (centers) of various types, with a total usable area of 17,544.72 square meters. The library holds 1.3876 million paper books, 1.7509 million e-books, 605,200 e-journals, 7.8195 million electronic dissertations, and 126,800 hours of audio and video resources. The university has built on-campus comprehensive practical training bases including the National School-Enterprise Collaborative Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Demonstration Base and the IEM Industry-Education Integration Center, and established 255 off-campus internship and practical training bases in collaboration with external institutions. It has also launched modern industrial colleges such as the Huazhong CNC Robotics College, Bozhong Precision Intelligent Manufacturing College, and Technology-Enabled Preschool Education College, as well as an industrial college cluster aligned with the four major economies of Heilongjiang Province.
The university consists of 10 secondary colleges and 1 teaching department, offering 29 undergraduate programs covering 6 discipline categories: engineering, education, management, art, economics, and literature. It has formed a disciplinary layout featuring engineering as the mainstay, education as the characteristic, and coordinated development of management, economics, art, literature and other disciplines. The university currently has 4 Heilongjiang Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Major Construction Sites and 1 Key Constructed Discipline of Heilongjiang Province. Preschool Education, Primary Education and English have passed the Level-II Accreditation of Normal Education Majors by the Ministry of Education. The Bachelor’s Degree program in Accounting has been accredited by CPA Australia, making the university the only private higher education institution in North and Northeast China to obtain such accreditation. In response to national and regional industrial demands, the university has established 6 professional clusters: intelligent manufacturing, automotive industry, information technology, teacher education, modern services, and creative design.
The university takes the leadership of the Communist Party of China as the red engine fully integrated into its governance system, promoting in-depth integration of Party building with institutional development and striving to cultivate a new generation of young people ready to take on the mission of national rejuvenation. It has been honored as a Model University for Party Building in Private Higher Education Institutions of Heilongjiang Province, one of the first batch of Innovative Universities for One-Stop Student Community Construction, and an Advanced Collective in Teacher Ethics. It has nurtured 2 National Model Party Branches for University Party Building and 1 national university team for the Strengthening the Country special program for Dual-Leadership teacher Party branch secretaries. Its experience in Party building was presented in written form at the 28th National Conference on Party Building in Institutions of Higher Education.
The university boasts strong teaching and research capabilities, with a faculty team led by distinguished scholars, supported by core teachers, combining full-time and part-time staff, and distinguished by dual-qualified professionals. It is home to high-level talents including recipients of the State Council Special Allowance, members of the Mental Health Education Committee under the Ministry of Education, National Excellent Teachers, leaders of National First-Class Majors, Class-B High-Level Talents of Heilongjiang Province, and academic leaders of provincial key disciplines.
The university has established cooperative relations with renowned overseas universities, including the University of Leeds and the University of Liverpool (UK), the University of Queensland and Monash University (Australia), Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russia), Belarusian State University (Belarus), Hanyang University and Myongji University (South Korea), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, and Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (Malaysia), and Lampang Rajabhat University (Thailand). By building a multi-level and wide-ranging international cooperation platform, it carries out diverse international programs including degree advancement, academic exchanges, faculty and student visits, overseas winter and summer study tours, exchange student programs, and overseas internship and employment.
In recent years, the average employer satisfaction rate of graduates has exceeded 95%, and the average salary of graduates has surpassed 5,500 RMB per month. Since its establishment, the university has trained more than 30,000 talents for society, including outstanding alumni such as Xie Bing (PhD candidate at Paichai University, South Korea), Zhang Yongsheng and Shen Yan (successful entrepreneurs who give back to their alma mater), Chen Qi (entrepreneurship tutor for college students under the Ministry of Education), and Guan Jingwen (provincial model of learning from Lei Feng in the workplace).
The university has been awarded titles including Excellent Private Higher Education Institution in China and Civilized Campus of Heilongjiang Province. It ranked first among private undergraduate universities in Heilongjiang Province in the Value-Added Evaluation of High-Quality Development for provincial undergraduate universities in both 2022 and 2023, and passed the Undergraduate Teaching Qualification Asses**ent by the Ministry of Education in 2023. Currently, it is a Postdoctoral Innovation Practice Base of Heilongjiang Province and a Candidate Unit for Master’s Degree Conferral.
