Hubei Engineering University is a full-time general undergraduate institution established by the People's Government of Hubei Province. The history of the university dates back to 1943, when the Hubei Provincial Third Normal School was founded. The institution has undergone several developmental stages, including its evolution into Xiaogan Normal School, Xiaogan University, Wuhan Normal College Xiaogan Branch, Xiaogan Normal College, and Xiaogan Normal Higher Vocational College. In 1986, it merged with Hubei Vocational and Technical Normal College (formerly the Xiaogan Branch of Huazhong Agricultural University). In 1999, the Southern Urban and Rural Construction School (also known as Xiaogan City Construction Engineering School) was incorporated. In March 2000, the institution was renamed Xiaogan University, and in December 2011, it became Hubei Engineering University.
The university is located in Xiaogan City, a key city in the Wuhan metropolitan area and a renowned center for Chinese filial culture. The campus is situated at 272 Jiaotong Avenue, Xiaogan City, 50 kilometers from downtown Wuhan. It takes 18 minutes by the Xiaohan Urban Rail to Wuhan Tianhe International Airport and 28 minutes to Hankou Railway Station, offering convenient transportation and a favorable geographic location.
