Jining Normal University is located in Ulanqab City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Ulanqab serves as a hub city connecting the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Bohai Rim, and Hohhot-Baotou-Yinchuan-Yulin economic zones. Known as the “Potato Capital of China,” “Wind Power Capital,” “Grassland Fur Capital,” “Home of Shenzhou,” and the “Grassland Summer Resort of China,” Ulanqab boasts significant geographical and cultural importance.
Historical and Cultural Legacy
The university has a long history and deep cultural roots. In 1931, the original Suiyuan Province established the Suiyuan Provincial Second Normal School in Jining, marking the beginning of modern teacher education in Ulanqab. Over the years, the institution evolved through various stages:
- In 1958, the State Council approved the establishment of Ulanqab League Normal Junior College.
- In 1985, it became Ulanqab Normal Junior College.
- In 1995, it was renamed Jining Normal Higher College.
- In 2009, it was upgraded to Jining Normal University with approval from the Ministry of Education.
- In 2013, the university obtained the right to confer bachelor’s degrees.
- In 2017, it was designated as a pilot university for overall transformation and development in Inner Mongolia.
- In 2021, it was selected as a national base for promoting language and literacy.
The university has been recognized with numerous honors, including “Water-Saving Campus,” “Garden-Style Unit,” and “Civilized Campus” in Inner Mongolia.

Jining Normal University spans three campuses with a total area of 1,617 acres and a construction area of 346,800 square meters. Its facilities include:

Since its upgrade to a university in 2009, faculty members have undertaken 1,466 research projects, including 13 national-level projects. The university has published 3,655 academic papers, 478 monographs, and obtained 115 patents.
Student Development
The university emphasizes holistic education, with students excelling in graduate school admissions and various competitions. Over the years, 1,491 students have passed the national postgraduate entrance exam, and many have won awards in humanities contests, science innovation challenges, and entrepreneurial competitions.
Contributions and Impact
Guided by the motto “Seek Truth and Innovation, Be a Model Educator,” Jining Normal University has cultivated over 90,000 skilled professionals, especially for grassroots education and development in ethnic minority areas. It has played a crucial role in supporting Ulanqab's economic growth, ethnic unity, and regional stability, earning the titles “Cradle of Basic and Ethnic Education in Ulanqab” and “Heart of Urban Wisdom.”
The former Vice Chairman of the CPC Central Committee, Liu Yunshan, wrote an inscription for his alma mater:
"Spring blossoms and autumn fruits spread across the world; educating and nurturing talents flourish on the grasslands."
