About University

The Science and Technology College of Hubei University of Automotive Technology is an independent undergraduate institution approved by the Ministry of Education. It is located in Shiyan City, Hubei Province—the commercial vehicle capital of China. The city lies at the northern foothills of the Wudang Mountains (a world-renowned holy land of Taoist culture), along the scenic banks of the Han River, and at the source of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project.

Since its establishment in 2003, the college has closely relied on the extensive engineering background of Dongfeng Motor Corporation and the talent and disciplinary foundations of its host university. By developing its comparative advantages, the college is dedicated, innovative, and pragmatic. It practices the philosophy of educating through both teaching and management, adhering to the motto of "Seeking Truth and Innovation." With a people-oriented approach, it tailors education to individual aptitudes, enforces strict management, and persists in industry-academia-research cooperative education. It aims to cultivate students' strong engineering awareness and comprehensive qualities, producing high-caliber, applied, and innovative talents for regional economic construction and the development of the automotive industry.

Distinctive Academic Programs The college focuses on gradually expanding and optimizing its disciplinary structure around the "automotive industry chain." It develops disciplinary characteristics, forming a layout with automotive, materials, electronics, and machinery as the core, supported by management, information, and humanities.

Constantly honing its core competitiveness among its 23 existing undergraduate programs, "Electronic Information Engineering" and "Product Design" have been approved as First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites in Hubei Province. "Vehicle Engineering" and "Information Management and Information Systems" are recognized as provincial key cultivation programs. "Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation" and "Vehicle Engineering" were approved as "Comprehensive Professional Reform Pilot" projects for undergraduate universities in Hubei Province. Furthermore, the "Information Management and Information Systems" program is a pilot for the Ministry of Education's "1+X" project. Currently, there are nearly 6,000 full-time undergraduate students enrolled.

Advanced Educational Philosophy Drawing inspiration from Germany's "dual system" education model, the college fully utilizes the intellectual resources and engineering environments of Dongfeng Motor Corporation and local enterprises. It hires engineers with rich practical experience as part-time instructors, continually strengthening the engineering and industry background of its faculty. This has created a "double-qualified and double-capable" teaching team that values practice and dares to innovate.

Adhering to the principle of "consolidating the foundation to seek distinctiveness, and basing on innovation to promote development," the college leverages the "1+X" certificate system pilot program to focus on cultivating students' vocational skills. It deepens reforms in the training and evaluation models for interdisciplinary technical talents and has built a teaching quality monitoring system characterized by "comprehensive coverage, full participation, and whole-process monitoring" to effectively guarantee the quality of talent cultivation.

Outstanding Achievements in Academic Competitions Taking the opportunity of transitioning into an applied undergraduate university, the college uses the Student Scientific and Technological Innovation Center as a pivot and scientific innovation activities and various academic competitions as carriers. It continually perfects its systems and mechanisms to cultivate students' practical and innovative abilities, achieving the integration of knowledge and skills, practice and innovation, and culture and quality.

The college strongly supports undergraduates in participating in 117 different academic competitions at various levels, including the China International "Internet+" College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the "Siemens Cup" China Intelligent Manufacturing Challenge, the Baja SAE China (BSC) Competition, the "Xuechuang Cup" National College Student Entrepreneurship Comprehensive Simulation Competition, and the POCIB (Practice of China International Business) National Foreign Trade Professional Ability Competition. In recent years, over 3,700 students have participated in various academic competitions and innovative practice activities, winning more than 1,400 international, national, and provincial awards.

Upright and Innovative Ideological and Political Education In exploring and practicing a connotative development model, the college promotes a "Four Selfs" education model centered on "self-esteem, self-confidence, self-reliance, and self-improvement." It comprehensively implements the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, adhering to the principle of "education-oriented, virtue-rooted."

Highlighting ideological and political guidance, it actively builds platforms for growth, creates premium cultural activities, and deepens college students' social practice and volunteer services to enhance their comprehensive literacy and competitiveness. In recent years, the college has been repeatedly awarded honorary titles such as "Advanced Grassroots Unit for Ideological and Political Education in Hubei Universities" and "Demonstration Unit for Party Building Work of Grassroots Party Organizations in Universities." Enrolled students frequently receive national, provincial, and municipal honors, including Changjiang Scholars, College Student Star of Self-Improvement, College Student Star of Entrepreneurship, Outstanding Youth League Member, and Outstanding Volunteer.

Thriving Alumni Network With the goal of cultivating "high-level specialized applied talents with an innovative spirit and entrepreneurial awareness, oriented towards the frontlines of production, operations, and management," the college has so far nurtured over 17,000 graduates for the automotive industry and social development.

Closely relying on the employment resources of major automotive enterprises nationwide, while actively expanding into job markets in IT, finance, education, and other sectors, the college targets Hubei and radiates across the country. The graduate employment rate has consistently remained above 93%, firmly ranking at the forefront of similar institutions in the province. Graduates are highly welcomed by society for their strong engineering awareness, hands-on capabilities, high comprehensive qualities, and prominent innovative spirit. This has led to the emergence of outstanding alumni such as "Soldier King" Xu Zhifang, "Grassroots Backbone" Pan Ping, "Pioneer of Innovation" Min Er'biao, and "Star of Entrepreneurship" Zhao Mengzhu.
