The predecessor of Tianjin Ren'ai College was Tianjin University Renai College, jointly established in 2006 by Tianjin University and Tianjin Ren'ai Group. The school is a non-profit, private, application-oriented regular undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education and the Tianjin Municipal People's Government, fully funded by Tianjin Ren'ai Group, and supervised by the Tianjin Municipal Education Commission. In 2020, it was approved as a project construction university for a master's degree-granting institution in Tianjin. In 2021, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it transitioned into an independent, full-time regular undergraduate university and was officially renamed Tianjin Ren'ai College.

Over the past three years, the average rate of graduates pursuing further studies has been 8%, with some students admitted to prestigious domestic and international universities such as Tianjin University, Zhejiang University, and the University of Sydney.
