The predecessor of Tianjin Ren'ai College was Tianjin University Renai College, jointly established in 2006 by Tianjin University and Tianjin Ren'ai Group. The school is a non-profit, private, application-oriented regular undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education and the Tianjin Municipal People's Government, fully funded by Tianjin Ren'ai Group, and supervised by the Tianjin Municipal Education Commission. In 2020, it was approved as a project construction university for a master's degree-granting institution in Tianjin. In 2021, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it transitioned into an independent, full-time regular undergraduate university and was officially renamed Tianjin Ren'ai College.

In 2025, the overall graduate employment placement rate reached 95.13%, ranking first among 30 undergraduate institutions in Tianjin, with a high-quality employment placement rate of 90.76%. Over the past three years, the average rate of graduates pursuing further studies has been 8%, with some students admitted to prestigious domestic and international universities such as Tianjin University, Zhejiang University, and the University of Sydney. Students have won 1,978 awards in municipal-level or higher academic and innovation competitions. Furthermore, 1,537 students have participated in college student innovation and entrepreneurship training programs, resulting in the approval of 75 national-level and 150 municipal-level projects.

It was approved to establish the Tianjin Key Laboratory of Equipment Design and Manufacturing Technology and a Tianjin Innovation Consortium. Over the past three years, it has co-built 102 industry-university-research cooperation bases and dispatched 94 enterprise science and technology envoys. It secured 921 approved research projects with research funding reaching 440.4879 million RMB, ranking among the top universities in Tianjin and first among private universities. It has obtained 33 provincial/ministerial-level or higher research projects, including from the National Natural Science Foundation, Ministry of Education Humanities and Social Sciences Projects, and Tianjin's "Dual Carbon" Major Scientific and Technological Projects.
