大卫：画家朋友，听说你在美术比赛中得了第一名。请给我们介绍一下儿你是怎么成功的，好吗？
Dàwèi: Huàjiā péngyou, tīngshuō nǐ zài měishù bǐsài zhōng dé le dì yī míng. Qǐng gěi wǒmen jièshào yíxiàr nǐ shì zěnme chénggōng de, hǎo ma?
David: Artist friend, I heard you won first place in an art competition. Could you tell us how you succeeded?
画家：怎么说呢？很多人以为成功是很难的事情，其实，只要坚持努力，理想就一定能实现。
Huàjiā: Zěnme shuō ne? Hěn duō rén yǐwéi chénggōng shì hěn nán de shìqing, qíshí, zhǐyào jiānchí nǔlì, lǐxiǎng jiù yídìng néng shíxiàn.
Artist: How should I put it? Many people think success is very difficult. Actually, as long as you keep working hard, your dream will definitely come true.
大卫：这话是什么意思呢？
Dàwèi: Zhè huà shì shénme yìsi ne?
David: What do you mean by that?
画家：我上初中的时候才开始喜欢画画儿。从那时候开始一直到高中一年级，每天大概只用一个小时画画儿。
Huàjiā: Wǒ shàng chūzhōng de shíhou cái kāishǐ xǐhuan huà huàr. Cóng nà shíhou kāishǐ yìzhí dào gāozhōng yì niánjí, měitiān dàgài zhǐ yòng yí ge xiǎoshí huà huàr.
Artist: I only started liking drawing when I was in junior high school. From then until the first year of high school, I probably spent only one hour a day drawing.
大卫：那么，四年里，你画画儿的时间大概只有六十一天啊。高中二年级以后，你没有再画吗？
Dàwèi: Nàme, sì nián lǐ, nǐ huà huàr de shíjiān dàgài zhǐyǒu liùshíyī tiān a. Gāozhōng èr niánjí yǐhòu, nǐ méiyǒu zài huà ma?
David: So in four years, the time you spent drawing was only about sixty-one days. After your second year of high school, did you stop drawing?
画家：高中二年级和三年级的时候，因为准备考大学，我暂时停止了画画儿。上大学以后，才又重新拿起画笔。大学四年里，我每天也只用一个小时画画儿。
Huàjiā: Gāozhōng èr niánjí hé sān niánjí de shíhou, yīnwèi zhǔnbèi kǎo dàxué, wǒ zànshí tíngzhǐ le huà huàr. Shàng dàxué yǐhòu, cái yòu chóngxīn ná qǐ huàbǐ. Dàxué sì nián lǐ, wǒ měitiān yě zhǐ yòng yí ge xiǎoshí huà huàr.
Artist: During my second and third years of high school, because I was preparing for the college entrance exam, I temporarily stopped drawing. After I entered university, I picked up the brush again. During my four years at university, I also spent only one hour a day drawing.
大卫：四年里，画画儿的时间大概也是六十一天。大学毕业以后呢？
Dàwèi: Sì nián lǐ, huà huàr de shíjiān dàgài yě shì liùshíyī tiān. Dàxué bìyè yǐhòu ne?
David: In four years, the time spent drawing was also about sixty-one days. What about after you graduated from university?
画家：大学毕业后，我当了三年大学老师。这三年里，我每天大概花三个小时画画儿。三年里，画画儿的时间大概是一百三十七天。
Huàjiā: Dàxué bìyè hòu, wǒ dāng le sān nián dàxué lǎoshī. Zhè sān nián lǐ, wǒ měitiān dàgài huā sān ge xiǎoshí huà huàr. Sān nián lǐ, huà huàr de shíjiān dàgài shì yì bǎi sānshíqī tiān.
Artist: After graduating from university, I worked as a university teacher for three years. During those three years, I spent about three hours a day drawing. In three years, the time spent drawing was about 137 days.
大卫：后来呢？
Dàwèi: Hòulái ne?
David: What happened later?
画家：后来我辞去了大学的工作，去全国各地游览了三年，每天用八个小时画画儿。三年里，画画儿的时间正好是三百六十五天。
Huàjiā: Hòulái wǒ cíqù le dàxué de gōngzuò, qù quánguó gèdì yóulǎn le sān nián, měitiān yòng bā ge xiǎoshí huà huàr. Sān nián lǐ, huà huàr de shíjiān zhènghǎo shì sān bǎi liùshíwǔ tiān.
Artist: Later, I resigned from my university job and traveled around the country for three years, spending eight hours a day drawing. In those three years, the time spent drawing was exactly 365 days.
大卫：这三年，你画画儿的时间比较多。
Dàwèi: Zhè sān nián, nǐ huà huàr de shíjiān bǐjiào duō.
David: During those three years, you spent quite a lot of time drawing.
画家：是的。后来我回到北京，专门画了三年画儿，每天用十个小时画画儿。三年里，画画儿的时间大概是四百六十五天。然后，在这次比赛中，我得了这个大奖。
Huàjiā: Shì de. Hòulái wǒ huí dào Běijīng, zhuānmén huà le sān nián huàr, měitiān yòng shí ge xiǎoshí huà huàr. Sān nián lǐ, huà huàr de shíjiān dàgài shì sì bǎi liùshíwǔ tiān. Ránhòu, zài zhè cì bǐsài zhōng, wǒ dé le zhè ge dàjiǎng.
Artist: Yes. Later, I returned to Beijing and focused exclusively on painting for three years, spending ten hours a day drawing. In three years, the time spent drawing was about 465 days. Then, in this competition, I won this major prize.
大卫：从你小时候对画画儿产生兴趣，到得大奖，你花在画画儿上的时间是多少呢？我们算一下儿：六十一天加六十一天加一百三十七天加三百六十五天加四百六十五天，等于一千零八十九天。大概只有三年！
Dàwèi: Cóng nǐ xiǎoshíhou duì huà huàr chǎnshēng xìngqù, dào dé dàjiǎng, nǐ huā zài huà huàr shàng de shíjiān shì duōshǎo ne? Wǒmen suàn yíxiàr: liùshíyī tiān jiā liùshíyī tiān jiā yì bǎi sānshíqī tiān jiā sān bǎi liùshíwǔ tiān jiā sì bǎi liùshíwǔ tiān, děngyú yì qiān líng bāshíjiǔ tiān. Dàgài zhǐyǒu sān nián!
David: From when you became interested in drawing as a child to winning the prize, how much time did you spend drawing? Let’s calculate it: 61 days plus 61 days plus 137 days plus 365 days plus 465 days equals 1,089 days. That’s only about three years!
画家：是啊，其他的时间，我都在做与画画儿无关的事。所以我说，成功不需要多少时间。你同意我的看法吗？
Huàjiā: Shì a, qítā de shíjiān, wǒ dōu zài zuò yǔ huà huàr wúguān de shì. Suǒyǐ wǒ shuō, chénggōng bù xūyào duōshǎo shíjiān. Nǐ tóngyì wǒ de kànfǎ ma?
Artist: Yes. During the rest of the time, I was doing things unrelated to drawing. So I say success doesn’t require that much time. Do you agree with my view?
大卫：你真棒！祝贺你。
Dàwèi: Nǐ zhēn bàng! Zhùhè nǐ.
David: You’re amazing! Congratulations.
