1. Swim upstream

【中文】逆流而上

     Nìliú ér shàng

【解释】 To go against or disagree with a prevailing or popularly held opinion or perspective; to act or behave contrary to the majority of others.

【例句】

-  I used to like swimming upstream, but now I find it easier to conform with the masses.

 我曾经喜欢反其道而行之,但现在发现随大流更简单。

 Wǒ céngjīng xǐhuan fǎn qí dào ér xíng zhī, dàn xiànzài fāxiàn suí dà liú gèng jiǎndān.

- Despite the whole family's opposition, she swam upstream and married him.

 尽管全家人都反对,她还是逆流而上嫁给了他。

 Jǐnguǎn quánjiā rén dōu fǎnduì, tā háishì nìliú ér shàng jià gěile tā.

2.  Call a spade a spade

【中文】说实话

      Shuō shíhuà

【解释】 Say it like it is.

【例句】

- Let's call a spade a spade, that man's a liar.

 咱们还是说实话吧,那个人就是个骗子。

 Zánmen háishì shuō shíhuà ba, nàgè rén jiùshì gè piànzi.

- Mr. Adams called a spade a spade and told Johnny's parents that he was a bad student.

亚当斯先生实话告诉乔尼的父母他是个坏孩子。

 Yàdāngsī xiānshēng shíhuà gàosu Qiáo ní de fùmǔ tā shìgè huài háizi.
