Chuzhou University is located in Chuzhou City, Anhui Province, nestled between the Yangtze River and Huai River regions in eastern Anhui. Chuzhou is a central city in both the Nanjing Metropolitan Area and the Hefei Economic Circle, as well as a core area of the Yangtze River Delta integrated development zone. Known as the "Key to Jinling and Guardian of Jianghuai," the city boasts scenic beauty and rich cultural heritage. It is home to the famed Northern Song dynasty literary piece Ode to the Pavilion of the Drunken Old Man by Ouyang Xiu. Fengyang County's Xiaogang Village, under Chuzhou's jurisdiction, is also a birthplace of China's rural reform.
The university traces its origins back to 1950, starting as the Anhui North Chuzhou Normal School. After evolving through various stages, including Chuxian Normal School and a branch of Anhui Normal University, it was renamed Chuzhou Normal College in 1980. In 2004, the Ministry of Education approved its upgrade to Chuzhou University. In 2014, it was designated as a "High-Level Local Applied University" in Anhui Province and in 2024 became a master's degree-granting institution, included in Anhui's "Double-Featured Universities" initiative.
Chuzhou University has two campuses—Huifeng and Langya—adjacent to the Langya Mountain National Forest Park and the 5A Langya Mountain Scenic Area, offering an ideal setting for education and research. The university spans 1,647.8 acres with 484,000 square meters of building space. It has teaching and research equipment worth ¥422 million, a library collection of 1.425 million physical volumes, and 1.595 million electronic books. The university comprises 15 schools offering 62 undergraduate programs, with 18,336 full-time undergraduate students and 16,012 adult education students. It has a faculty of 1,363, including 1,048 full-time teachers, 380 with senior professional titles, and 414 holding doctoral degrees.
