Situated in the vibrant Pearl River Delta in South China Guangdong, named after the city FOSHAN – ancient with rich intangible traditional cultures as well as metropolitan with developed economy, Foshan University (FOSU) boasts her history dated back to 1958, when Foshan Normal College and Foshan Branch of South China Agriculture College were founded. With 362 acres over 3 campuses, namely Xianxi, Jiangwan and Hebin, the University has evolved into a beacon of high level institution of science and technology in Guangdong province, particularly as 6 disciplines – Engineering, Materials Science, Environment/Ecology, Plant & Animal Science, and Chemistry & Agricultural Sciences are ranked ESI Top 1%, 5 disciplines – Veterinary Medicine, Agronomy, Food Science & Engineering, Environmental Science & Engineering, and Chemical Engineering “ARWU World-class Disciplines” in 2023, disciplines of mathematics, animal husbandry, and optical engineering among the top 50% of the “2023 ARWU China’s Best Discipline Rankings”. And the University was ranked among the Top 1,000 in the ARWU by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy during 2021 to 2023. According to ARWU China 2024, FOSU is ranked the 219th in China and 11th in Guangdong Province.
Adhering to the strategy of Talent First, FOSU is proud of her quality human resources with 518 professors and 878 Doctorates out of 1,646 teaching staff. Upholding the motto of “in knowledge and in virtue, unto integrity and mightiness”, faculties and students have gained 5,235 awards since 2018, ranging from technology to culture sectors, provincial as well as national.
Entitled by MoE, 20 faculties currently are offering 60 Bachelor degree programmes for 17,251 full-time undergraduates and 10 Master degree programmes for 2,338 postgraduates. In addition, 61 jointly-recruited candidates, home and abroad, are studying for their Doctorates. Attributing great importance to global partnerships and exchanges, FOSU has always been enhancing plenty of cross-national joint education projects, such as Sino-German double degree programmes for undergraduates majoring in Environment Engineering, Product Design and Digital Media. FOSU joined the board member of the “Alliance of China-Thailand Universities” in 2020, one of the key members in the “China-Arab University 10+10 Cooperation Plan”(MoE) in 2023, and the first batch member of “German Bosch Applied and Technical Skills Talent Training Cooperation Pilot Project” (MoE) in 2024.
