Linyi University is located in Linyi, Shandong Province, a historically and culturally significant city, a hub for commerce and logistics, an eco-friendly waterfront city, a red tourism destination, and a nationally recognized civilized city. It is a comprehensive university with coordinated development across disciplines such as economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, and the arts. It stands out for its distinctive features and is one of the first universities supported by Shandong Province for the construction of applied undergraduate institutions. It has been evaluated as an "excellent university" by the Ministry of Education for its undergraduate teaching.
The university is the only comprehensive university in the Yimeng revolutionary old area. Its predecessor was an anti-Japanese school established in 1941 as the first branch of the Chinese Anti-Japanese Military and Political University. After various stages of development, including being the Binhai Founding College, Linyi First Normal School, Linyi Teacher Training School, Linyi Education College, Linyi Normal University, and Linyi Teacher’s College, it began offering undergraduate programs in 1998. In 2010, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be renamed Linyi University, and in 2018, it was granted the right to confer master's degrees. Over 83 years of development, the university has inherited the red gene, promoted the spirit of Yimeng, and cultivated future leaders. It has formed the motto “To be clear in righteousness, sharp in thought, strong in character, and far-reaching in purpose” and the school spirit of “faith, endurance, innovation, responsibility, and dedication.” These values have shaped the university’s distinctive qualities, such as having strong faith, resilience, creativity, a sense of responsibility, and dedication. It has produced over 370,000 excellent graduates for the country and the Party.
Linyi University has 27 teaching units, 5 research institutions, 5 teaching support organizations, and 3 directly affiliated institutions. It also has branches in Yishui and Feixian. The campus covers an area of about 6,000 acres, with a building area of more than 1.16 million square meters and total assets of 4.85 billion yuan, including 600 million yuan worth of teaching and research equipment. The university is a pioneer in educational informatization, water conservation, and green campus initiatives in Shandong, and has been recognized as a model for national greening.

Linyi University offers 85 undergraduate programs, 11 of which are national first-class programs, and 24 are provincial first-class programs. It has 11 national first-class courses and 66 provincial first-class courses, including 2 provincial "golden courses" in ideological education and 15 provincial "curriculum ideology" demonstration courses. The university has also established a national virtual simulation teaching demonstration center and several provincial teaching demonstration centers.
The university has 5 master's degree programs, 11 professional master's degrees, and boasts research in chemistry, engineering, plant and animal sciences, with three disciplines ranking in the top 1% globally in the ESI rankings. The university also has a collaborative research center for national revolutionary cultural heritage, 18 provincial and ministerial research platforms, and numerous labs and centers in areas like Yimeng culture, teacher education, cancer treatment, smart logistics, renewable energy materials, and paleontology.
Linyi University emphasizes integration with the local community, contributing to regional development, rural revitalization, and social well-being. It has established partnerships with numerous universities worldwide and has joint programs with international institutions. The university also supports RCEP regional cooperation research and has opened a Confucius Institute in Guinea.
