College of International Business and Economics, of Wuhan Textile University was established in 2002 with the approval of the Ministry of Education of China. It is a full-time regular higher education institution with the authority to confer bachelor’s degrees, jointly run by Wuhan Textile University and Meilian Times Education Development Co., Ltd. The school’s history can be traced back to the Hubei Provincial School of Foreign Trade founded in 1958. At present, the school has more than 15,000 undergraduate and junior college students, including over 9,500 undergraduates.
Located in the heart of Wuhan’s Optics Valley, on the picturesque shore of Tangxun Lake, the school enjoys a vibrant academic atmosphere surrounded by universities and high-tech enterprises, with convenient metro and bus transportation.
The campus is planned and built with an international vision of ecology, technology, and humanities. Covering more than 1,000 mu (about 165 acres) with a total floor area of over 500,000 square meters, it houses modern teaching buildings, a library, art gallery, gymnasium, practice and training centers, student activity center, and modern industry schools. A comprehensive campus information platform integrating OA, academic management, and student services has been built, achieving full wireless network coverage. Standardized student apartments are equipped with elevators, dual hot-cold air-conditioning, hot-water bathing systems, broadband internet, and telephones.
The school has implemented a talent introduction and development program to build a team of “four-good” teachers. It has 806 faculty members, of whom 66.4% hold senior or intermediate titles, and 87.05% have a master’s degree or above. Wuhan Textile University assigns high-level faculty to undertake teaching and management, ensuring shared resources, complementary advantages, and strong support for teaching quality.
The school adheres to the socialist orientation of education, operates on a nonprofit basis, and is guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Discipline development is placed at the forefront of the school’s strategy. It has built a disciplinary system centered on engineering, humanities, economics, management, and arts, with coordinated development across multiple fields. The school currently has 7 academic divisions—Modern Business, Digital Accounting, Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Digital Media, Art & Design, and Foreign Languages—offering 27 undergraduate majors and 12 junior college programs. In the past three years, it has received more than 100 teaching and research projects at or above provincial and ministerial level, including the Ministry of Education’s Industry-University Collaborative Education Program, provincial teaching research projects, provincial “excellent ideological-political courses,” first-class undergraduate courses, and first-class undergraduate programs.
The school is a governing unit of several national and provincial professional societies, including the China Textile Engineering Society, China Society of International Trade, China Association of Trade in Services, China Designers Association, and Hubei Society of International Trade. It has won multiple honors, such as “National Model Branch for Party Building,” “National University Dynamic Youth League Branch,” “Top Ten Responsible and Integrity Private Colleges in China,” “National Best Independent College,” “Advanced Unit for Ideological and Political Education in Hubei Higher Education,” and “Outstanding Contribution to Military Recruitment in Hubei Province.”
The school has built a Party-led ideological and political education system, continuously improving its educational quality. Through cultural events such as the University Arts Festival, Science and Culture Festival, Talent & Gratitude Festival, Club Culture Festival, and Mental Health Festival, it fosters students’ cultural literacy and mental well-being. Two Party branches were recognized as national model branches for Party building. Its “Five Builds to Promote Five Leads” model of Party work won the second prize in the National Outstanding Achievements of Party Building and Ideological-Political Work in Private Universities. Students frequently participate in social practice, with teams winning honors such as “Excellent Social Practice Team” from the Communist Youth League Central Committee. In recent years, two counselors have won the title of “National Excellent Counselor in Private Universities,” one counselor was awarded “Advanced Individual in Ideological and Political Work of Hubei Province,” and one student was named a Hubei “College Student Self-Reliance Star.”
The school has established partnerships with over 20 universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and other countries. Domestically, it cooperates with enterprises such as Winner Medical, JD.com, Suning, Zhongbo Education, Jiangdu Tax & Finance, Chinasoft International, Wuhan SoftEmpire, and Houpu Group. It has jointly built the JD Modern Industry College and Integration Training Center, as well as the Ministry of Education’s Digital Media Arts Teaching Base, and established more than 200 off-campus internship and training bases.
A comprehensive financial aid system is in place, combining national scholarships, national inspirational scholarships, national grants, student loans, university scholarships, and student assistantships.
Over the past 20 years, the school has produced more than 30,000 graduates. In the past five years, students have won over 1,000 national and provincial awards in competitions such as “Internet+,” “Challenge Cup,” China Robot Competition, E-commerce Innovation & Entrepreneurship Challenge, “AutoNavi Cup,” College Advertising Art Contest, National Arts & Design Contest, Mathematical Modeling Contest, National English Contest, English Speech Contest, and National College Arts Festival.
Graduates have been admitted to top universities at home and abroad, such as Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Donghua University, Central China Normal University, University of Technology Sydney, Macau University of Science and Technology, Wuhan Textile University, and Sichuan International Studies University. The postgraduate admission rate has been steadily increasing, with graduate employment exceeding 90% and employer satisfaction ranking among the highest in similar institutions. Notably, alumnus Li Jianquan founded Winner Medical Co., Ltd., which was honored by the CPC Central Committee, State Council, and Central Military Commission as an “Advanced Collective in the Fight Against COVID-19,” praised as a “military factory” of epidemic control supplies, making significant contributions to epidemic prevention and control.
