Hubei University, located in Wuhan, capital city of Central China’s Hubei Province, is a key comprehensive university jointly administered by Hubei Provincial Government and China's Ministry of Education, covering arts, history, philosophy, science, engineering, economics, law, management, education, agriculture and medicine, among which six disciplines including materials science, chemistry, engineering, botany and zoology, environment/ecology, and biology and biochemistry entering the world's top 1% in the ESI rankings, eight disciplines selected for the U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities rankings, and six disciplines included in the ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects.
By the end of 2024, Hubei University has over 1,600 faculty members, including more than 1,000 professors and associate professors. Among the faculty, there are 216 PhD supervisors and 1,047 master's supervisors. Additionally, there are 439 high-level talents at various levels, including 69 national-level talents and 370 provincial and municipal-level talents.
Hubei University has set up academic exchange and cooperation programs with about 150 universities and research institutes in over 40 countries and regions. Hubei University has co-established Manchester Metropolitan Joint Institute, Hubei University, with Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK, and Confucius Institutes with local universities in Brazil, São Tomé and Príncipe, Poland.
Inaugurated in 2008, the Confucius Institute at Sao Paulo State University (Unesp CI) is the first Confucius Institute in Brazil. It has won the "Confucius Institute of the Year" Award three times (2010, 2012, 2016) and became one of the 13 "Pilot Cultural Confucius Institutes" in 2016. It is now the largest Confucius Institute in Brazil. Based on this platform, Hubei University and Sao Paulo State University have developed diverse collaboration such as staff and student exchange as well as research cooperation.
