Liaocheng University Dongchang College, established in 2002, is a full-time undergraduate institution approved by the Ministry of Education and governed by the Shandong Provincial Department of Education. It is jointly operated by Liaocheng University and the state-owned Liaocheng Financial Investment and Holding Group Co., Ltd. In 2021, the college successfully passed the Shandong Provincial University Setting Committee’s verification and is set to transition into "Liaocheng Polytechnic University." The college has received numerous honors, including being named a "Shandong Provincial Garden Unit," "Advanced Unit for Ancient Books Protection," "Base for the Inheritance of Chinese Excellent Traditional Culture," and "Shandong Best Social Reputation University." It was also selected for the third batch of Shandong's application-oriented undergraduate university construction list.
The college enrolls regular undergraduate and vocational students from 24 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) across China. Currently, the college has 9,610 students, including 6,445 undergraduates (including those advancing from junior colleges to undergraduate level) and 3,165 vocational students. The college comprises 12 departments, including Chinese Language, Economics and Management, Foreign Languages, Education, Mathematics and Information Engineering, Film and Media, Chemistry and Biology, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Music, Art Design, Physical Education, and Marxist Teaching. There are 33 undergraduate programs and 10 vocational programs, primarily focusing on science and engineering, covering disciplines such as economics, law, education, literature, engineering, management, and arts. The Mechanical Design, Manufacturing, and Automation program has been approved as a Shandong Provincial first-class undergraduate program.
Located in the culturally rich and scenic "Water City of the North" — Liaocheng, Shandong Province, the college sits by the picturesque Tuhe River and spans 1,011.38 acres. The first phase of the campus construction covers 337,300 square meters, with a total investment of 2.55 billion RMB, making it a key project for Shandong Province in 2021. The architectural design emphasizes canal culture, with a digital, intelligent, and collegiate-style theme. The campus follows a layout of "One Heart, Two Institutes, One Ring, Two Axes," highlighting the characteristics of a science and engineering college, aiming to provide an ideal and comfortable teaching and living environment for faculty and students. The campus includes teaching buildings, experimental buildings, a library, dormitories, faculty apartments, dining halls, sports halls, a multi-purpose gymnasium, an activity center, a science hall, and engineering training centers. The college is equipped with modern teaching facilities such as smart classrooms, large computer network rooms, language labs, and various specialized labs. The total value of teaching and research instruments exceeds 119 million RMB, with 2 training centers and 135 laboratories on campus. There are 17 incubators for student entrepreneurship. The library holds 775,600 books, and is a member of CALIS (Chinese Academic Library and Information System), with 1,340 ancient books from the Ming and Qing dynasties. Some of these ancient books have been included in the "Shandong Provincial Precious Ancient Books Catalog."
The college has a strong teaching staff, with a well-balanced team of highly skilled and experienced educators and researchers. There are 538 faculty members, with nearly 50% of the adjunct professors from industry and enterprises. The faculty includes 2 Shandong Provincial Outstanding Teachers, 18 Liaocheng City Outstanding Teachers, 5 mid-career experts with outstanding contributions in Liaocheng, 1 Xianlin Scholar, 5 Xianlin Scholar Young Experts, and 3 high-end technology talents from Liaocheng's think tank.
The college focuses on cultivating high-quality applied talents. It has actively explored collaborative education models involving the school, local government, and enterprises, establishing 75 off-campus internship and training bases. It has signed cooperative agreements with well-known enterprises such as Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., Qingdao Qingruan Group, Liaocheng Xinfeng Group, and Jinan Sunshine Aunts, and has established three modern industry colleges: the Cultural and Creative Industries College, the Intelligent Manufacturing Industry College, and the New Generation Information Technology Industry College. Four programs have implemented joint development with enterprises for specialized training. The college's Computer Science and Technology Experimental Teaching Center has been recognized as a Shandong Provincial Demonstration Center for Experimental Teaching in Higher Education. It also established a practical base for the Household Services Program with Jinan Sunshine Aunts, which has been approved as a Shandong Provincial Demonstration Internship Base. The college has also partnered with Shandong Sanmu Zhonghe Information Technology Co., Ltd. to establish a Data Open Innovation Application Laboratory.
The college is actively promoting reforms in its talent cultivation model. It has implemented various teaching models such as "2.5+1.5," "2+1," "3+1" segment-based, mentorship, and dual-mentor systems, further enhancing the integration of internships, entrepreneurship, and industry collaboration. This helps students apply theoretical knowledge in real-world contexts, shortens their adaptation period when entering the workforce, and provides businesses with both short-term benefits and long-term talent reserves. In the past five years, students have won over 5,700 awards in provincial and national competitions, including the "National College Student Mathematical Modeling Contest" and the "National 3D Digital Innovation Design Competition."
In the next five years, the college aims to reach a stable enrollment of approximately 15,000 students, successfully transition into "Liaocheng Polytechnic University," pass the Ministry of Education's undergraduate teaching evaluation, and establish itself as a high-level application-oriented university with distinctive features, contributing to regional economic and social development. The college aspires to rank among the top universities of its kind in Shandong Province.
