Quanzhou University of Information Engineering (QUIE) is located in Quanzhou, a city renowned as one of China's first nationally designated historical and cultural cities, the first East Asian Culture Capital, the starting point of the Maritime Silk Road, a World Heritage Site, and one of the three major cities in Fujian Province. Approved by the Ministry of Education, the university is a full-time application-oriented undergraduate institution, focusing on engineering while encompassing disciplines such as Economics, Management, and Arts.
QUIE was founded in 2002 and upgraded to an undergraduate institution in 2014. Over its more than 20 years of development, the university has consistently adhered to the development concept of Establishing the School with Quality and the motto of Knowledge and Action as One, striving continuously to achieve leapfrog progress in its undertakings. In 2021, QUIE successfully passed the Undergraduate Teaching Qualification Assessment organized by the Ministry of Education at a high level and was listed as a Master's Degree Conferring and Cultivating Unit in Fujian Province. In 2022, it was selected as a Cultivation and Construction Unit for First-Class Application-Oriented Undergraduate Universities in Fujian Province. The university has been honored with titles such as National Advanced Collective in Education System, National Outstanding Unit in Educational Informatization Construction, National Demonstration Site of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base, Fujian Province May 1st Labor Certificate, Fujian Province Civilized Campus, Fujian Province Safe Campus, and Fujian Province Comprehensive Reform Pilot University for Three-Wide Education.
QUIE comprises 10 secondary schools/centers: the School of Electronics and Communication Engineering, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Software, the School of Creative Design, the School of Civil Engineering, the School of Economics and Management, the School of International Education, the Ukrainian Art Institute, the School of Marxism, and the General Education Center. Offering 34 undergraduate majors, it has formed six major clusters: Electronic Information, Internet, High-End Equipment Manufacturing, Construction Engineering, Creative Design, and Modern Services. Currently, the university has 16,080 full-time undergraduate students and 31 jointly-trained postgraduate students.
QUIE adheres to the philosophy of building a high-quality faculty through high-end leadership, needs-based adaptation, and sustainable development. It implements the Double Hundred High-Level Talent Introduction Plan, the Double Hundred Dual-Teacher and Dual-Ability Training Plan, and the Hundred Young Teachers Enhancement Plan, vigorously advancing the strategy of strengthening the university with talents. As a result, a high-level faculty team with both professional excellence and ethical integrity, dedication, and commitment has been formed. The team includes 194 individuals recognized as national-level talents, National Outstanding Teachers, Fujian Provincial Teaching Masters, Minjiang Scholars, Fujian Provincial High-Level Talents, Tongjiang Scholars, and Quanzhou Municipal High-Level Talents.
QUIE adheres to the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, focuses on the central position of talent cultivation, and is committed to cultivating high-level application-oriented talents with solid foundation, strong ability, innovation and high quality for all-round development of moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic and labor education. It strives to build first-class undergraduate education. In recent years, it has won 2 national teaching achievement second prizes, 3 grand prizes, 1 first prize and 6 second prizes for teaching achievements in Fujian Province. At present, there are 3 national first-class undergraduate program construction sites, 8 provincial first-class undergraduate program construction sites, 3 national first-class undergraduate courses, 30 provincial first-class undergraduate courses, 3 provincial applied disciplines, 2 provincial model application-oriented major groups, 3 provincial industry-oriented specialties in higher education, and 5 provincial innovation and entrepreneurship education reform pilot majors. Over the past three years, students have won more than 260 national second prizes or above and over 300 provincial first prizes or above in competitions included in the National College Student Competition Ranking List released by the Ministry of Education. The participation rate of students in disciplinary competitions has reached 100%.
In its practical exploration of cultivating application-oriented talents, QUIE continuously innovates and reforms, gradually forming a new One Body, Two Wings educational structure that takes the campus as the main body, supported by the Science and Technology Innovation Industrial Park and the Digital Economy and Cultural Creativity Industrial Park as the two wings. It is dedicated to establishing a new mechanism for cultivating application-oriented innovative talents that integrates industry and education, technological innovation, and industrial innovation, and creating a new Four-in-One environment for scientific innovation and talent cultivation, thus forging a new path for application-oriented universities to cultivate scientific and innovative talents. Currently, the university has established Fujian Engineering Research Center for Integrated Circuit Laser Chips, Fujian Min-Tai Cooperation Base for Integrated Circuit Photonic Technology, Fujian Pilot Innovation Service Platform — QUIE Integrated Circuit R&D Public Service Platform, Fujian New Display Manufacturing Innovation Center, National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Center Fujian Application Center, Additive Manufacturing National Research Institute Fujian Applied Technology Research Institute, Fujian Additive Manufacturing Collaborative Innovation Center, Fujian Academician Expert Workstation (Demonstration), Fujian Technology Transfer Institution — QUIE Technology Transfer Center, as well as 4 Provincial Key Laboratories in Universities, 4 Provincial Engineering Research Centers in Universities, 2 Provincial Humanities and Social Sciences Bases in Universities and other innovation research platforms. The university has also set up 3 provincial-level modern industry colleges (Intelligent Manufacturing, Integrated Circuits, Big Data and Cyberspace Security), a number of teaching laboratories such as Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center and Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Center, and established several college students' innovation and entrepreneurship (incubation) bases. The university has established a series of innovation and entrepreneurship platforms including one of the first batch of Provincial Innovation and Entrepreneurship Parks for University Students, a university graduates entrepreneurship incubation base, and a mass innovation space in Quanzhou. In addition, it has established industry-university-research cooperation bases with well-known domestic and foreign enterprises such as Bosch Rexroth, FESTO Group, Siemens in Germany, ANTA Group, and JOMOO. It has led the establishment of vocational education groups of information, machinery, and intelligent manufacturing in Quanzhou and Quanzhou Intelligent Manufacturing Vocational College Alliance.
QUIE adheres to the policy of educational openness and internationalization in its operations. It has established cooperative and exchange relationships with more than 40 universities in more than 10 countries and regions, forming a multi-faceted, multi-level, multi-form, multi-field, and distinctive localized international education pattern. QUIE collaborates with Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania in the United States to offer the Software Engineering (4+0) Dual Diploma Program and collaborates with Eastern Washington University to conduct the Sino-US 121 Dual Diploma Program. Fujian Province has established the Sino-German (Fujian) Education Cooperation and Development Center at QUIE. QUIE also jointly builds an Industry 4.0 Practical Training Center with Festo AG in Germany, which plays a significant role in talent cultivation, faculty training, industry-education integration, and scientific research innovation. The center has been recognized as a high-quality provincial-level teacher training base filed with the Ministry of Education. QUIE has partnered with the Ukrainian National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture (NAFAA) to establish the Ukrainian Art Institute, introducing high-level artistic educational resources to cultivate interdisciplinary and internationalized design talents, thereby promoting the high-quality development of the local cultural industry. Additionally, the university has developed cooperative programs such as mutual credit recognition, overseas internships, study-abroad programs, and education for international students in collaboration with multiple universities in the United States, Ukraine, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Hungary, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and other countries. These initiatives have established two-way channels for faculty and student exchanges abroad as well as for the recruitment and cultivation of international students.
Cultivated in the rich cultural soil of Quanzhou, QUIE exudes its vigorous vitality and bears its mission of serving regional economic and social development. The university, with its implementation of a Three-Step development strategy, has shaped a One Body with Two Wings school-running pattern, fully advancing the Five “One” Project. QUIE aims to build a high-level distinctive application-oriented undergraduate university, enhancing its integral level of education, and striving to create a brilliant future.
