Nanchang University School of Science and Technology was established in August 2001. It is an independent institution approved by the Jiangxi Provincial Government and recognized by the Ministry of Education. The school is a collaboration between Nanchang University, a "Double First Class" institution, a joint project between the Ministry of Education and Jiangxi Province, and Jiangxi Zhonghang Gongqingcheng Industrial Co., Ltd. It is a full-time undergraduate university located in Gongqing City, Jiujiang, the only city in China named after the "Communist Youth League" (共青团). The campus covers an area of 1,215 acres, with 356,000 square meters of buildings. The university is equipped with 1,168 cloud-based computer labs, a modern student activity center, standardized language labs, an indoor gymnasium, sports fields, and multimedia classrooms. Dormitories provide drinking water, hot showers, and air conditioning, and the campus has 182 laboratories (training centers), 1 innovation and entrepreneurship park, and 113 off-campus internship bases. The university library holds over 500,000 physical books and more than 1.4 million electronic books. The campus is spacious and modern, providing excellent conditions for over 15,000 students to study and grow healthily.
The university leverages the academic and professional strengths of its parent institution, offering 33 undergraduate programs across six academic disciplines: economics, law, literature, engineering, management, and arts. The university has six academic departments: Basic Sciences, Humanities, Finance and Economics, Engineering and Technology, Information Technology, and Ideological and Political Theory. In recent years, the university has aligned its programs with national and provincial industrial strategies and emerging market sectors, gradually forming specialized modules such as mechanical and construction engineering, electronics and computer science, law and Chinese language literature, business and management, and arts and digital media. The university continues to promote reforms in undergraduate education and teaching quality, with significant progress in the development of modern industrial programs. Several courses have been awarded provincial-level construction projects and teaching achievement awards, and the university’s key programs continue to grow in strength and recognition.
The university benefits from a strong faculty base provided by Nanchang University, including full-time and part-time professors, as well as industry and business experts. The faculty includes over 781 full-time teachers, including many distinguished teaching professionals and active young scholars. They have achieved success in national and provincial teaching competitions and have guided students to numerous awards in competitions such as the National College Students’ Advertising Art Competition, the Provincial University Teachers’ Ideological and Political Theory Competition, and the Provincial Teaching Innovation Competition.
The university fosters an educational environment that respects individuality, promotes potential, and emphasizes "teaching according to ability." It has developed a "government-school-industry-enterprise" collaboration model for talent development, enhancing practical education and increasing laboratory access. The university organizes various competitions and training programs to stimulate learning through competition, achieving outstanding results. In the last five years, students have participated in major competitions such as the China International College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the College Students’ Mathematical Modeling Contest, and the Advertising Art Design Competition, winning 786 awards in total, including 174 national-level awards and 612 provincial-level awards. The employment rate of graduates and the satisfaction rate of employers are among the best in Jiangxi’s independent colleges.
The university places a strong emphasis on cultural education, with effective campus cultural construction and growing community service capabilities. It has established 26 student clubs covering various fields, including academic research, social practice, sports, arts, and health. These clubs provide students with opportunities to develop their talents and express their individuality. The university’s campus activities, including student festivals, volunteer service events, variety competitions, singer competitions, debate contests, basketball games, poetry readings, and forums, have become key parts of its cultural identity. The Youth League and Youth Volunteer Association have received provincial honors such as "Jiangxi Provincial Advanced Youth League Organization" and "Jiangxi Provincial Excellent Youth Volunteer Service Award." Students regularly win national and provincial awards, including titles like "Most Beautiful Team" in the "Thousand Schools, Thousand Items" network display, and "Excellent Youth Volunteer."
Since its establishment, the university has increasingly distinguished itself with its unique features, enhanced comprehensive strength, and growing social reputation. It has been recognized by the China Independent Colleges Association, the China Higher Education Center, and renowned educational media as a "National Advanced Independent College," "Top Ten Independent Colleges in China," and "Top Ten Honest Independent Colleges in China." It has also received several provincial honors, including "Advanced Grassroots Unit in Ideological and Political Work for Jiangxi University Students," "Outstanding Collective in Campus Safety Construction," and "Advanced Unit in Recruiting Military Personnel."
Looking ahead, the university will continue to focus on the development theme of "talent-driven development, industry-education integration, and quality improvement" during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. It will adhere to the development philosophy of "quality first, ability-based, reform and innovation, open sharing," and work to strengthen its foundation, consolidate its特色, stimulate vitality, improve quality, and accelerate the construction of a high-level, application-oriented undergraduate institution with distinct characteristics.
