Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Xinglin College is located in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, a city known as "the birthplace of a dynasty, the capital of two emperors," and honored as "the cradle of the Republic, the Eastern Ruhr, and the Republic's industrial powerhouse." Founded in July 2001 by the Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the college is a provincially affiliated, full-time, independent undergraduate institution dedicated to cultivating application-oriented talents in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Under the leadership of the Party Committee of Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the college adheres to the educational philosophy of "pursuing not the largest but the strongest," emphasizing diligence and practicality, inheriting and promoting a fine school spirit, and implementing a "two strengths, two priorities, and one adaptation" approach to education. Its distinctive focus on TCM has achieved remarkable results.
Xinglin College enjoys a good reputation among independent colleges in China and has won honors such as "National Advanced Independent College," "Shenyang Advanced Party Branch," and "Shenyang May Fourth Red Flag Youth League." In 2012, it represented independent colleges in Liaoning Province and received the provincial "May Day Labor Medal." The college hosted the 11th National Independent College Summit in 2016, the third Sino-German Youth Football Friendship Match, and a Sino-French cultural exchange event with Lyon University in 2017. In 2021, it was awarded the "Outstanding Organization Award" in activities celebrating the centenary of the Party in Liaoning's education system.
The college builds upon the disciplines of Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and aligns its programs with the development of modern TCM technology and societal needs. It currently offers six departments: Traditional Chinese Medicine, Integrated Medicine, Acupuncture and Massage, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Medical Technology, along with four teaching units: Ideological and Political Education, General Education, Foreign Language Education, and Military and Physical Education. The programs include Traditional Chinese Medicine, Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine, Acupuncture and Massage, Rehabilitation Therapy, Nursing, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Pharmacy Management, Health Service and Management, Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Imaging Technology, and Oral Medicine Technology. The curriculum features a TCM-centric framework with a balanced integration of Chinese-Western medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and health and medical management.
The college emphasizes character building and innovation in talent cultivation. It continuously improves the quality of education to nurture socially responsible, well-rounded, and highly skilled talents who contribute to the medical field and national development. The college has implemented significant educational reforms, with the TCM program being designated as a first-class major in Liaoning Province and TCM and Pharmacy identified as application-oriented model programs. Additionally, 27 courses, including Selected Readings from the Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor, Pathology, Selections from Acupuncture Classics, and Pharmacology, have been recognized as provincial-level first-class undergraduate courses. In recent years, the college has received five teaching achievement awards in Liaoning, secured 20 education reform projects funded by the Provincial Department of Education, and obtained multiple other research grants. Several faculty members have won teaching innovation awards at the provincial level.
The college prioritizes the holistic development of students, advocating the philosophy of "morality first, talent second." Students excel in various national, provincial, and municipal competitions, with over 2,000 students participating in nearly 400 innovation and entrepreneurship projects. Of these, 100 projects have received awards in the "Challenge Cup" and other competitions. Thousands of students have earned honors such as "Liaoning Outstanding Graduate," National Scholarships, and Provincial Government Scholarships. The graduate school admission rate for medical graduates consistently exceeds 20%, with the 2024 cohort achieving a preliminary exam pass rate of nearly 30%.
In 2017, the college's team secured third place in the national finals of the Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor competition organized by the Ministry of Education, and fourth place in the Study and Recitation of Treatise on Cold Damage contest. Over the past three years, graduates have demonstrated strong employability, with many pursuing further studies, joining public institutions, working in private hospitals, or participating in government-backed programs such as "Three Supports and One Assistance" and the Western Plan. The college collaborates with over 300 medical institutions in 22 cities nationwide to provide clinical training and innovative "study-and-practice" systems.
The college actively promotes international TCM cultural exchange through the "Belt and Road Initiative," developing cooperative programs in healthcare and rehabilitation with countries such as Germany and Japan. It also provides comprehensive online and offline employment services through its employment cloud platform. Facilities include a national-level innovation and entrepreneurship training base and an incubation center. In 2023, over 1,000 students participated in training programs.
