Tianjin College of Media and Arts, founded in 2004, is an application-oriented regular undergraduate institution of higher education cultivating talents in media and arts. Under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era and the Party’s policies on education, we will firmly hold to the fundamental task of fostering virtue and cultivating talents and college motto “Cultivating Virtue, Nurturing Wisdom, Advancing Artistry, Seeking Ultimate Good”. We will stick to the educational philosophy “Integrated into the Society, Integrated into the Industry and Integrated into the Career” and the the development path of “Industry-Education Integration, University-Enterprise Collaboration, University-Local Government Co-Construction, Synergistic Cultivation”, and keep innovating our cultivating mechanism as required, to gradually establish our distinctiveness “Values-Shaping Moral Foundation, Narrative-Immersion Cultural Cultivation, Innovation-Forward Education and Industry-Embedded Learning Enhancement”. All these have introduced us many honors including national and local advanced education units, Higher Education Institution of Excellence, Top 10 Public Recognized Colleges and Model Institution of Civilized Campus.

The location at the foot of the national 5-star scenic spot Panshan Mountain gains an amazing scenery. Our campus covers 1000 mu, with 250,000m2 floor area of school buildings. We have ten secondary schools and two teaching departments, School of Film and Television, School of Drama, School of Music, School of Dance, School of Broadcasting and Hosting Arts, School of Animation and Digital Media, School of Culture Communication and Management, School of Marxism, School of Industry, School of Continuing Education, Basic Teaching Department and Sports Department. Over the twenty years since our establishment, we have set up 24 undergraduate majors covering five discipline fields of art, literature, management, education and engineering, and built up a discipline system based on media and specialized in art. The number of registered full-time undergraduate students has now reached 15 thousand, studying radio and television editing, audio art, broadcasting and hosting art, animation, digital media technology, performance, music performance, dance performance, cultural industry management, journalism, preschool education and other key and special majors. Over one third of the thousand full-time teachers are holding senior professional and technical posts including professor and associate professor.

We have been putting the premium on cultivating students’ ability in practical innovation and been rewarded with fruitful results in teaching, scientific research and art creation. With the support of China National Arts Fund and Beijing Culture and Arts Fund, we have launched a series of original works including musicals Legend of the Grand Canal, Legend of Xu Zhimo and The Love of The Crane, drama Freaks in Earthliness and symphonic chorus concert The Flourishing Canal, which have received high recognization among the public and greatly enhanced students’ ability in professional creation and practice. The dramas Song of the Grand River and Freaks in Earthliness are rewarded with the honor of “Excellence of Drama” in two sessions of China Campus Theatre Festival. We have organized various art performance troupes including TCMA Symphony Orchestra, Nature Melody Chorus, TCMA Chinese Orchestra, TCMA Modern Dance Regiment and TCMA Experimental Theatre Troupe, which have hosted various colorful campus cultural activities and grown into the backbone in national and Tianjin artistic performance competitions for college students. The special concerts performed in Tianjin Grand Theatre, Chasing in the Red Chamber, Centennial Echo have received good reputations in the society.

We have been vigorously promoting university-enterprise collaboration and industry-education integration, having formed cooperation with numerous media institutions and cultural industry groups in co-building laboratories and creating internship and training bases to transform scientific research and creation achievements, and in jointly shooting movie and television plays and micro films, planning and creating majestic stage shows and live dramas, so as to achieve our unique superiority in synergistic development of industry-academia-research-innovation. All these are centered around the strategy of developing a strong culture and development of media and culture industries in Tianjin, and around President Xi Jinping’s important instruction on the Canal and cultural and creative works serving the leaping development of cultural tourism industry in Tianjin. Particularly, we have set up the School of Industry fully responsible for university-education collaboration, program-docking and result transformation, so as to promote the teachers and students’ ability in creating and innovating and advance the in-depth integration of education and industry.

TCMA is rooted in Tianjin and media industry to serve Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region, devoted to serving national major development strategies and regional social and economic development and making our contributions in talent cultivation, scientific research, artistic creation and public service. Over the two decades since our establishment, we have contributed over ten thousand qualified graduates to all walks of the society. The steady ranking in the top of employment rate among the regular undergraduate institutions in Tianjin in the recent three years has gained us the title of Tianjin Advanced Employment Institution. Numerous graduates have emerged in film and television media and cultural and artistic industries, including Liu Yuxin and Yan Peilun.

The digital intelligence era is now ushering in numerous new opportunities and challenges in promoting science-art integrated communication and cultivating talents for the new audio-visual communication. TCMA is decisive in satisfying the new times needs to put forward high-quality development in media education through constant innovations.
