Chongqing Three Gorges University was founded in 1956 and is located in Wanzhou District, Chongqing. It became an undergraduate institution in 1994, was approved by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee as a master’s degree-granting institution in 2013, and was designated as a doctoral degree-granting institution under construction by the Chongqing Academic Degrees Committee in 2021. The university is a full-time general higher education institution sponsored by the Chongqing Municipal People's Government and administered by the Chongqing Municipal Education Commission.
Throughout its long history, the university has cultivated a spirit centered on its motto: "Integrity, Knowledge, Self-reliance, and Innovation." It has actively embraced and adapted to the educational transformations of the new era, accelerating its development as the first undergraduate institution in Chongqing to advocate for the "green education concept" and promote the integration of green education with industry. It is recognized as a national pilot for smart campus development, a member of the China-U.S. Applied Technology Education "Double Hundred Plan," a model for education informatization in Chongqing, a demonstration school for green education, and a pilot institution for reforming and developing aesthetic education.
The university spans nearly 3,000 mu (approximately 494 acres), with a campus building area of about 710,000 square meters. It has teaching and research equipment valued at over 300 million RMB, a library collection of nearly 2 million printed volumes, and 1.89 million electronic books.
