Hangzhou Dianzi University(杭州电子科技大学)

Hangzhou Dianzi University is a research-oriented teaching university with a strong emphasis on electronic information, a clear advantage in economics and management disciplines, and an interdisciplinary approach integrating engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law, and art. The university was founded in 1956 as Hangzhou Aviation Industry Finance School, and over the years, it has undergone several transformations, becoming Hangzhou Electronics Industry Institute in 1980, merging with Hangzhou Publishing School in 2003, and being renamed Hangzhou Dianzi University in 2004. The university has been affiliated with various central ministries, including the Ministry of Second Machinery Industry, Ministry of Fourth Machinery Industry, Ministry of Electronics Industry, and the Ministry of Information Industry. In 2000, it adopted a university management system co-established by the Zhejiang Provincial Government and the Ministry of Information Industry, with the provincial government taking the lead. In 2007, it became a university jointly constructed by the Zhejiang Provincial Government and the National Defense Science and Technology Industry Committee, and in 2015, it was designated as a key university for construction in Zhejiang Province.

The university is committed to serving the local region, relying on industry, and aiming to contribute to the nation’s defense. It upholds the fine tradition of "unity, diligence, pragmatism, and innovation," and the school motto of "Study Diligently and Act Decisively, Uphold Integrity and Seek Innovation," forming a distinctive educational characteristic.

The university has five campuses, including the Xiansha, Wenyi, Dongyue, Xiansha East, and Qingshanhu campuses, covering over 2,500 acres. It consists of 19 colleges and teaching units, including an independent college, the School of Information Engineering. Currently, there are over 28,000 full-time students and 2,708 staff members, including 2,059 full-time faculty members and 392 professors and associate professors. The university has 53 national-level experts, 200 provincial and ministerial-level experts, and two national “111 Plan” discipline innovation bases. It offers 47 undergraduate programs, 22 of which are national-level first-class programs, and multiple national-level pilot programs. It also has two national defense-focused key programs, making it the only provincial university with national defense-oriented key programs, and 11 of its programs have passed engineering education certification.

The university offers 10 first-level doctoral disciplines, 1 professional doctoral degree point, 6 postdoctoral research stations, and 20 first-level master's degree points. Its Department of Integrated Circuit Science and Engineering is one of the first national institutions authorized to grant doctoral degrees in this field. The university’s engineering, computer science, materials science, chemistry, and environmental science & ecology disciplines are ranked in the top 1% globally in ESI (Essential Science Indicators), with engineering ranking in the top 1.5‰.

The university focuses its scientific research efforts on the world’s technological frontiers and national strategic needs. It has participated in and completed numerous key national projects under the "Sixth Five-Year Plan" to "13th Five-Year Plan," as well as “973” and “863” high-tech research programs. The university is home to four national-level platforms, including the "China-Austria Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Manufacturing 'Belt and Road' National Joint Laboratory," and 54 provincial and ministerial-level innovation platforms. Since 2016, it has received three National Science and Technology Progress Awards (second prize), one National Natural Science Award (second prize), and the He Liang He Li Industry Innovation Award. In 2023, the university's research funding exceeded 700 million RMB. The university actively promotes the integration of industry, academia, and research, with 15 local research institutes and 25 technology transfer centers, over 300 school-enterprise research platforms assisting local businesses. It has been recognized as a "China Industry-Academia-Research Cooperation Demonstration Base" and ranks 13th in the Chinese university patent transfer rankings.

The university adheres to a "people-oriented, pursuit of excellence" educational philosophy, aiming to cultivate high-quality talent with a strong sense of national identity, global vision, innovation spirit, and practical ability. It has received national-level teaching achievement awards five times. The university excels in academic competitions, having won over 600 national-level awards, including second prizes and higher, in top competitions like the Challenge Cup, Internet Plus, electronic design, mathematical modeling, ACM programming, and intelligent vehicle competitions. It is ranked among the top 17 universities in China for academic competition results and ranks 9th nationwide in graduate student innovation practice competitions.

In its 68 years of history, the university has trained and sent over 200,000 talented individuals to serve the nation and society. Many alumni have become leaders in domestic electronic companies such as Alibaba, SMIC, BOE, Zhongke Panda, Hisense, Skyworth, Xiamen Hongfa, and Beixinyuan. The university is known as the "Cradle of IT Entrepreneurs" and "Fertile Ground for Outstanding Accountants." It has excellent student quality, with admission scores ranking among the top in the country and an increasing number of students pursuing postgraduate studies at top institutions.

The university is actively expanding international cooperation and integrating into the new landscape of international educational exchanges. It has established friendly relationships with 133 universities and institutions in over 40 countries and regions, including the United States, the UK, Germany, Japan, Russia, France, Mexico, Austria, and Cyprus. The university has established a number of international research platforms and has built 60 substantial international research cooperation platforms with world-renowned universities and first-class research institutions. It has received two West Lake Friendship Awards and was named the chair institution for the China-Russia cooperative educational organization. It was also awarded the Times Higher Education International Cooperation Innovation Award, being the only university in Zhejiang Province to receive this honor.

Looking ahead, Hangzhou Dianzi University will closely follow the leadership of the Communist Party of China, guided by the spirit of the 20th National Congress, and continue to strengthen its internal development, push for innovation and reform, and strive to become a high-level research university with a distinctive electronic information focus.
