Among the Five Sacred Mountains, Mount Heng stands out as the most distinguished; Nanyue College, adjacent to the longevity of Mount Heng.
Drawing on the spiritual essence of Mount Heng and inheriting the cultural resonance of the Stone Drum, Nanyue College of Hengyang Normal University is an independent, full-time undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education and hosted by Hengyang Normal University under the jurisdiction of Hunan Province. The college is located in Hengyang, a historic cultural city in China. It is close to Mount Heng to the north, the Xiangjiang River to the east, surrounded by Nanyue Airport and the Wuhan-Guangzhou High-Speed Railway, providing highly convenient water, land, and air transportation. It possesses teaching equipment valued at nearly 30 million yuan, a library collection exceeding 600,000 volumes, and shares high-quality educational resources with its host university. The campus boasts a beautiful environment and is recognized as a "Garden-Style Unit" in Hunan Province and a "National Advanced Unit for College Students' Social Practice Activities." In 2010, it was awarded the title of "National Advanced Independent College" by the Chinese Association of Independent Colleges. The college is included in the national enrollment plan for ordinary higher education institutions and recruits students nationwide.
The college aims to cultivate application-oriented talents, with a well-structured and distinctive range of majors. Centered on teacher education, it promotes multi-disciplinary development. It has 15 teaching departments and offers 36 undergraduate programs (including one provincial key specialty), covering nine disciplines: economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, arts, and management. Its academic system emphasizes humanities and sciences while fostering coordinated growth between teacher education and non-teacher education specialties and integrating foundational and applied disciplines.

The college emphasizes quality as its foundation and highlights "teacher education" and "practice-based education" as its core features. It pioneered teaching skill assessments in areas such as public speaking, writing, and comprehensive teaching abilities, fostering daily professional skill training for students. It has implemented a U-G-S training model (Universities-Government-Schools) that ensures a progressive, tiered, and continuous practice-based teaching system for teacher training. In response to development needs, the college deeply engages in university-enterprise cooperation, establishing practice teaching bases with renowned enterprises like Shenzhen Tongtuo, Dongguan Jiamu, and Hangzhou Taihu Hotel. Over the past two years, 12 students have received national scholarships, 232 students have received national motivational scholarships, and 1,679 students have received national financial aid. Each year, dozens of students are admitted to graduate programs, and the employment rate of graduates has remained above 90%, ranking highly among similar institutions in the province.
The college actively promotes extracurricular competitions and technological innovation. In recent years, it has won 69 awards in national and provincial competitions, including two national first prizes and several provincial awards. Students have also secured numerous research projects and patents. For example, the "Multi-Tower Water Level Controller" developed by a student received a national patent.
The college places great importance on social practice. Its summer “Three Rurals” social practice teams have repeatedly been recognized as "Outstanding Teams" by provincial departments. In May 2017, its Youth League branch was awarded the "Five Four Red Flag Youth League" honor.
The college actively engages in international exchanges, forming partnerships with over ten institutions in the United States, the UK, Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Collaborative programs include overseas training for teachers, summer internships abroad for students, and "2+2" exchange studies. These efforts enhance academic and practical opportunities for students.
With the philosophy of "Pursuing Knowledge and Virtue, Seeking Reality and Truth," the college focuses on both internal growth and transformation, emphasizing student management and training for application-oriented talents. It strives to become a preferred institution among students and employers alike.
