Qilu Institute of Technology, formerly known as the Xingtan College of Qufu Normal University, is a regular undergraduate institution approved by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. In 2017, our institute achieved outstanding results in the Undergraduate Teaching Quality Assessment conducted by the Ministry of Education, and has been rated as “Excellent” in the classification assessment by the Shandong Provincial Education Department for five consecutive years. Since the establishment, our institute has adhered to the educational philosophy of “student-centered, quality-oriented, science and technology-driven, talent-focused, law-based, and culturally prestigious”. We uphold the school motto of “Learn to Understand, Appreciate Good and Beauty” and promote the school spirit of “Virtue, Courtesy, Diligence, and Innovation”. We comprehensively strengthen talent cultivation, scientific research, social service, cultural inheritance and innovation, as well as international exchange and cooperation. In addition, our institute has become a regular undergraduate institution with a focus on technology, complemented by economics, liberal arts, medicine, management, art, and more disciplines.

 

[Campus Facilities] Our institute has two campuses: Jinan Campus, located in the eastern university town of Jinan, the capital city of Shandong Province, and Qufu Campus, located in Qufu, the hometown of Confucius. The total campus area is over 1,500 acres, with a building area of more than 400,000 square meters. Our institute has 18 experimental teaching centers, a library with nearly 2.21 million book copies and over 1.55 million electronic books, as well as 26 databases. With an investment of nearly CNY 200 million, we have established a smart campus platform, making our institute the first privately funded undergraduate institution in Shandong Province to fully support next-generation Internet services. Our institute has been awarded the title of “Advanced Unit in Network Security” in Shandong Province for two consecutive years, and our smart campus construction has been recognized as an outstanding case of educational informationization in Shandong Province.

 

[Educational Scale] Our institute has built two professional specialty schools in Shandong Province, including the School of Industrial Internet and Intelligent Manufacturing and the School of Shandong Cross-border E-commerce. Our institute comprises 11 schools and 1 department: School of Computer Science and Information Engineering, School of Intelligent Manufacturing and Control Engineering, School of Chemical and Biological Engineering, School of Civil Engineering, School of Medicine, School of Business, School of Liberal Arts, School of Education, School of Arts, School of Journalism and Communication, School of Marxism, and Basic Courses Department. Our institute offers 61 undergraduate majors and 25 junior majors, and currently enrolls nearly 27,000 students.

 

[Faculty] Our faculty consists of highly qualified professionals, with 46% holding senior academic titles and 91% possessing master’s or doctoral degrees. Additionally, 65% of our teaching staff are classified as “Dual-Qualified” teachers. Our institute is proud to have 9 nationally renowned high-level talents, 38 provincially recognized high-level talents, 1 recipient of the Florence Nightingale Medal, 1 recipient of the National Meritorious Model for Female, 2 National March 8 Red-Banner Holders, 10 individuals enjoying special allowances from the State Council, and 4 national outstanding teachers. Our institute also has 2 “Huang Danian-style” teacher teams and 7 provincial innovation teams.

 

[Scientific Research] Our institute actively aligns with national and Shandong provincial development strategies and continually optimizes the layout of disciplines and specialties, developing a disciplinary layout with an emphasis on science and technology as the leading edge. We have established 7 provincial innovation platforms and 4 provincial education research bases. Our institute has hosted and held the Artificial Intelligence and Memristor Computing Application Industry Development Summit Forum, Industrial Big Data and Intelligent Manufacturing Industry Forum, Chinese Modernization and Culture “Two Creations” Forum, the First National Memristor Computing Application Academic Seminar and so on.

 

[Talent Development] Our institute comprehensively implements the fundamental task of cultivating moral character, establishing a full-environment education system characterized by “morality first, capability-oriented, quality-focused, and culture-based”. With the goal of nurturing high-quality applied talents, we are committed to pursuing an innovative “3S” talent development model guided by the OBE (Outcome-Based Education) philosophy. Currently, we have 3 nationally recognized first-class majors, 7 provincially recognized first-class majors, 4 nationally recognized first-class courses, 18 provincially recognized first-class courses, and 8 provincial model courses for ideological and political education. 1 first-class textbook for general higher education in Shandong Province; 2 experimental teaching demonstration centers for general higher education in Shandong Province, 2 demonstrative grass-roots teaching organizations for general undergraduate higher education in Shandong Province, and 3 demonstrative internship (practical training) bases for general higher education in Shandong Province. In the past two sessions, we have been awarded 1 national second prize for teaching achievements, 1 provincial special prize, 1 first prize, and 8 second prizes.

 

[Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education] Our institute has been approved as a maker space, innovation and entrepreneurship demonstration base, innovation talent training practice base, and one of the first “Immature Phoenix Nest” for employment and entrepreneurship of female university students in Shandong Province. Our students have received 3399 provincial-level and higher-level awards in various academic competitions, including 69 national first prizes, 182 second prizes, 46 provincial special prizes, and 412 first prizes. In 2024 China International College Student Competition, our students won 23 provincial gold awards, 5 provincial silver awards, 3 provincial bronze awards, the total number of gold awards ranked second in the province’s universities, has identified 5 to advance to the national gold award competition. We have maintained an average graduate employment rate of 97.51% over the past three years. We actively promote industry-education integration and have established 17 industry institutes, signing cooperation agreements with 12 local governments, 15 academic institutions, 42 industries, and 528 enterprises.

 

[Cultural Education] Our institute adheres to the educational philosophy of “Cultivating STEM Students in the Cradle of Qilu Culture” and implement the “Nine Ones” Qilu Cultural Education Project. Our Confucius institute has been recognized as an “Excellent Traditional Culture Inheritance Demonstration Base” by the China Confucius Foundation. We initiated the “Qilu Ancient Road” study program, and a short video based on this program, titled Echoes from the Ancient Path, received the National “Tell China’s Stories” Creative Communication Contest’s highest award. The Shandong Province Chinese Culture Research Center has been established on our campus. The school’s experience of cultural cultivation was highlighted in the news section of China Education News under the title of “Internalization in the heart and externalization in the line-a chronicle of cultural cultivation in Qilu Institute of Technology”.

 

[International Engagement] Our institute adheres to an open educational philosophy and continually strengthens cooperation and exchanges with renowned international universities through various forms such as cooperative education, joint training, collaborative research, and faculty and student visits. Collaborative relationships have been established with 43 universities in countries and regions including the United States, Australia, Germany, New Zealand, and Thailand. Proactively engaging with “Germany’s Industry 4.0”, our institutehas partnered with Germany’s Rhein-Koster Company and Steinbeis University, establishing China-Germany cooperative pilot classes and jointly building the “China-Germany Intelligent Manufacturing Technology Center” for the purpose of cultivating applied talents with an international perspective.

 

[Community Service] Our institute considers serving society as our mission. Since June 2014, our institute has actively responded to the call from the Ministry of Education and provided comprehensive support to the Qinghai Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture Vocational and Technical School. Over CNY 6 million has been invested in the construction of laboratories, libraries, and other facilities, while teachers have been dispatched to assist in enhancing professional curriculum development and teaching management. The outstanding achievements of our institute’s support work were highlighted in a report by CCTV News. Our institute is also deeply involved in social training initiatives and has established 16 national, provincial, and municipal vocational skills training centers and examination sites, training more than 30,000 individuals.

 

[Party Construction] With Xi Jinping’s thought of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era as the guide, the Party has comprehensively implemented the Party’s education policy, and continued to promote the creation of the model of Party building in universities in the new era and the creation of quality, so as to lead the high-quality development with high-quality Party building. The Party Committee of the university was approved as the cultivation and creation unit of “National Model Universities for Party Building Work”; the Party Branch of the School of Biological and Chemical Engineering was approved as the first batch of “National Model Branch for Party Building Work”, “National ‘Double Leader’ Teachers Party Branch Secretary ‘Strengthening the Nation’ special action team”; 1 party branch was approved ‘the provincial party building work benchmark faculties’, 2 party branch was approved as “the provincial benchmark faculty for party building work”, and 2 party branches were approved as “Shandong provincial advanced grass-roots party organizations in the education system”. A large number of excellent party members have emerged, such as “National March 8th Red-Banner Pacesetter ”, “Excellent Communist Party Member of Shandong Province Education System”, “Pioneer of Party Work in Shandong Province Education System”, and so on. The Party Committee of the school has been honored by the national and provincial education authorities for many times. The Party Committee of the school has made typical speeches at important meetings of the national and provincial education system for many times. The Party Building Magazine of the Central Propaganda Department, People’s Daily, Guangming Daily, China Education News, China Youth Daily, CCTV, and so on, have reported the experience and practice of the party building work of the school for many times.

 

Currently, our institute has entered a track of comprehensive, coordinated, open, and innovative development and is striving towards the creation of a modern, distinctive, and high-level applied undergraduate university!
