Shanghai Institute of Technology is a full-time public university with 70 years history. SIT owns two campuses - Xuhui downtown campus is located in city center of Shanghai, adjacent to Caohejing Hi-tech Park. Fengxian main campus is located in Fengxian Bay area. The two campuses cover an area of 1106870.2 square meters.
SIT is one of the top 100 demonstration universities of Applied Sciences distinguished by its Perfume and Aroma Technology program in China. SIT is also one of the pilot universities included in the Chinese Ministry of Education (MOE) "Excellence Engineer Education Program" and one of the 15 pilot universities to deepen innovation, originality and entrepreneurship education (IOE education) funded by Shanghai Municipal government. As one member of UAS alliance under the guidance of Chinese Ministry of Education, after more than 60 years of twists and turns, SIT has developed a mature application-oriented education system including 53 undergraduate programs with a focus on engineering and natural science areas, 27 thesis-based master's degree programs and 20 discipline areas of professional master's degree programs covering more than 8 major discipline complexes including engineering, science, management, economics, humanities, laws, agriculture and art. We are authorized to offer doctorate degree in Chemical Engineering and Technology since 2021.
The total enrollment is over 20000 students. SIT has more than 1700 full-time teachers and high-quality research faculty. SIT has increased the percentage of industry experts and elites with overseas education background so as to cultivate talents with strong practical ability and international way of thinking.
SIT owns 11 National First-class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites and 14 Provincial First-class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites. In 2020, SIT adds 4 newly approved Undergraduate Programs by the Ministry of Education including Artificial Intelligence, Robotics Engineering, Big Data Management and Application and Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering.
Among programs we offer, Perfume and Aroma Technology, Chemical Engineering and Technology, Electrical Engineering and Automation, Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Mechanical Design Manufacturing and Automation, Food Science and Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Management and Information System are National Pilot Programs for "Applied Undergraduate Program".
SIT has established extensive cooperation and exchange relationship in various forms, for instance, seeking international authentication for Engineering programs, developing Joint Double-degree Program, carrying out Joint Education, and conducting Student/Staff Exchange Programs with 150 overseas universities and research institutions in 31 countries and regions all over the world.
To respond to the Belt and Road initiative, we cooperated with Souphanouvong University (SU) to cultivate the local railway technical talents in Laos. The SIT-SU Cooperative Program in Railway Engineering has enrolled nearly 40 Laos students (22 undergraduates and 15 graduates). The first two batches of about 20 students have graduated from this program, who have become the engineers serving the construction of China-Laos Railway. Based on this successful cooperation, we established the Belt and Road Lancang-Mekong Railway Connectivity Center in 2021, which is funded by Shanghai Science and Technology Commission.
SIT has become an ideal choice for international students from all over the world to study applied science in Shanghai.
