О Университете

The School of Sports Science and Technology of Wuhan Sports University was founded in 2003. It is a full-time undergraduate independent college approved by the Hubei Provincial Department of Education and reviewed by the Ministry of Education of China. The school is hosted by Wuhan Sports University, which recommends and appoints school leaders and middle-level cadres to participate in its operation and management. Its education and teaching are guided and supervised by Wuhan Sports University, and resources such as faculty, library collections, training venues, and laboratory equipment are shared between the two institutions.

The school is located at No. 1 Huandao Road, Canglongdao Science and Technology Park, Jiangxia District, Wuhan. The campus covers 546 mu (about 36.4 hectares), with a building area of 206,000 square meters. Teaching instruments and equipment are valued at over 37 million yuan, and the library holds more than 358,000 printed volumes. The school has over 7,700 full-time students, in addition to more than 400 first-year students from the School of Arts of Wuhan Sports University who study and live on campus.

The school has developed rapidly in discipline and program construction. It currently has five secondary teaching units (four departments and one section), offering 16 undergraduate majors including Physical Education, Sports Training, Preschool Education, Broadcasting and Hosting Arts, among others, as well as three specialized diploma programs in Physical Education, Rehabilitation Technology, and Journalism & Media Production. These programs span seven disciplines: Education, Economics, Literature, Management, Arts, Science, and Medicine. Among them, the Physical Education major was approved in 2013 as a pilot project for the “Comprehensive Reform of Undergraduate Majors” in Hubei Province, and the Sports Rehabilitation major was approved in 2020 as a provincial-level first-class undergraduate program.

The quality of talent cultivation has steadily improved. In recent years, 23 students independently trained by the school have been selected for national teams; four have earned the title of International Master Athlete, 15 have become National Master Athletes, and 27 have been recognized as National First-Class Athletes. In 2018, the men’s basketball team won the Group B championship in the Hubei University Basketball League. In 2019, the dragon and lion dance team represented China at the 5th Asian Dragon and Lion Dance Championships, winning two gold medals. In 2022, the Physical Education major’s representative team won first prize with an overall third-place score in the Provincial University Professional Skills Competition. The school’s graduates are highly sought after, with an average annual employment rate of 85.67%, exceeding the provincial average.

The school places great emphasis on openness in education. In recent years, it has leveraged its unique strengths to actively align with local economic and social development needs, following a strategy of “going out” and “bringing in.” Relying on cooperation with enterprises, associations, and local governments, it has carried out extensive and effective social services in areas such as internships and practice, extracurricular training, scientific and technological services, event hosting, and national fitness promotion.

The school positions itself as rooted in Hubei while serving the nation, focused on sports while oriented toward society. It strives to build a high-level university that emphasizes sports disciplines, promotes coordinated multidisciplinary development, highlights professional characteristics, and cultivates application-oriented talent. After more than 20 years of development, its overall educational strength has grown significantly. In the 2025 China Alumni Association National University Rankings, the School of Sports Science and Technology ranked 74th among independent colleges, 91st among private universities (Category III), and 1st among private universities specializing in sports.
