Yuncheng University(运城学院)

Yuncheng University is a regular higher education institution established by the Shanxi Provincial People's Government and managed by the Shanxi Provincial Department of Education. It originated from the Yuncheng Teachers College Class of Shanxi Normal College, founded in 1978, which was later renamed Yuncheng Teachers College. In 1989, Yuncheng Teachers College, Yuncheng Regional Education College, and Hedong University (Preparatory) merged to form Yuncheng Advanced Teachers College. In 2002, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was upgraded to Yuncheng University.

The university has successively been awarded numerous honors, including "National Civilized Campus," "National Advanced Collective for Language and Character Work," "National Advanced Unit for School Sports and Health Work," "Shanxi Provincial Advanced Collective for Party Building and Ideological and Political Work," "Shanxi Provincial Advanced Collective for College Students' Ideological and Political Education," "Shanxi Provincial Model Unit," "Shanxi Provincial Civilized Campus," "Shanxi Provincial Demonstration Site for Socialist Core Values Construction," and "Shanxi Provincial Advanced Unit for Safe Campus Work."

In recent years, the university has adhered to the motto of "Cultivate Virtue and Strive for Achievement" (立德有为). It maintains the institutional positioning of being "local, applied, and open," and upholds the educational philosophy of "city-university symbiosis, integration of industry and education, and integration of science and education." Guided by Party building to promote "one integration and two highs" (the integration of Party building and academic development leading to high-quality development and high-level governance), the university insists on its applied characteristics, highlights its foundational role in teacher education, and comprehensively implements the "13310" development strategy.

Comprehensive Strength Continues to Improve

The university passed the Ministry of Education's undergraduate teaching qualification assessment, undergraduate teaching audit assessment, and undergraduate education and teaching audit assessment in 2012, 2018, and 2024, respectively. In 2021, it was established as one of the first batches of applied undergraduate university construction units in Shanxi Province. In 2024, it was approved as a master's degree-granting unit, concurrently securing authorization for three professional master's degree programs: Electronic Information, Food and Nutrition, and Tourism Management.

• Qualifications: 30.45% of full-time teachers hold senior professional titles, 29.94% hold doctoral degrees, and 92.77% hold master's degrees or above.

• Elite Talents: The university boasts 54 instances of high-level provincial and national talents, including winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, leading talents in the "Ten Thousand Talents Plan," the "Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents Project," "National Young and Middle-Aged Leaders in Scientific and Technological Innovation," experts receiving special government allowances from the State Council, "Humboldt Scholars," "National Outstanding Teachers," and "Sanjin Scholars," among others.

• It also has 118 graduate supervisors from domestic and foreign universities and research institutes, and 11 flexibly introduced academic leaders. The "Halophilic Microorganism Resource Utilization" team was approved as a Shanxi Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Talent Team.

The university currently enrolls over 20,300 full-time undergraduate students and 400 jointly cultivated graduate students. It features 21 teaching and research institutions and 51 undergraduate majors.

• Key Disciplines: 5 provincial key supported disciplines (Chinese Language and Literature, Applied Economics, Computer Science and Technology, Food Science and Engineering, Applied Mathematics) and 1 provincial service industry innovation discipline group (Characteristic Agricultural Products Development).

• First-Class Majors: 2 national-level (Electronic Science and Technology, Tourism Management) and 10 provincial-level first-class undergraduate major construction points.

• Achievements: Over the past five years, it has been approved for 1 national first-class undergraduate course and 87 provincial first-class courses. Students have secured 38 national and 116 provincial innovation and entrepreneurship projects, winning 7 bronze medals in the China International College Students' Innovation Competition.

• Employment: The employment placement rate of graduates consistently ranks in the first tier of universities in the province. Since its founding, it has cultivated over 100,000 graduates, most of whom work within the province and have become backbone forces in various industries.

Scientific and Technological Innovation Makes New Progress

The university hosts a variety of research platforms, including:

Recent 5-Year Outcomes: The university has undertaken 560 longitudinal research projects (including 16 national-level ones), achieving breakthroughs in the National Social Science Fund's obscure disciplines special projects and National Art Fund projects. It has published nearly 1,700 research papers (810 in core journals or above) and won 48 scientific research achievement awards at or above the provincial level. Research funding has repeatedly hit record highs, with 1,820 horizontal projects securing 261 million RMB in funding, and 55 patent conversions yielding 4.603 million RMB.

Serving Local Development Yields New Growth

The university engages in industry-university-research-application cooperation with Yuncheng City, its subordinate counties and districts, and over 170 enterprises. By building a cooperative mechanism of "Enterprise Proposing Needs—University and Locality Bridging—Team Providing Strong Services," it supports the construction of characteristic specialized towns for admixtures and water pumps. It has formed distinct strengths in concrete admixture formula optimization, superhard tool deep application, and year-round efficient production of sprout vegetables.

International Cooperation is Further Expanded

The university has signed cooperation agreements with 47 universities across the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Russia, Australia, Malaysia, and South Korea. It conducts student exchange programs with 6 universities in Poland, South Korea, Malaysia, and Russia, has established a Chinese language internship base in Thailand, and jointly cultivates master's students with high-level universities in South Korea and Russia.

Cultural Inheritance and Innovation Become a New Trademark

The university emphasizes regional cultural studies.

• The Yellow River Cultural Ecology Research Institute and the Shanxi Yuncheng Salt Lake Protection and Utilization Research Institute are approved as Shanxi Provincial University Humanities and Social Sciences Key Research Bases.

• 7 projects, including Puju Opera, Hedong Drums, Jinnan Dough Sculpting, and Hedong Kites, are approved as Shanxi Provincial Excellent Traditional Culture Inheritance Bases.

• The Journal of Yuncheng University was rated as a National Excellent Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences in Universities. The university has also successfully hosted the cross-strait "Guan Gong Culture" themed youth calligraphy and painting exhibition and seminar for five consecutive years.
